Arcades are allot cheaper than people think. You can get them for as low as $100, on Craigslist. Wait until the auction is over, then hit the parking lot. At the end of the day those guys do not want to load those machines back up to drag them all the way back home. That's when you get the killer deals.

Arcades are not cheap, but sometimes you will win one for 50 bucks, but it won't be no Pac-Man...

I love my cabinet, but God Almighty is it a pure pain in the ass to move anywhere. A true chore. You HAVE to love it to put up with it.

Do they have arcade auctions in the UK? How do i find them?

Be very very mindful if you eventually get a Star Wars Arcade machine its a vector monitor so if anything happens to it you're going to be paying some serious money trying to get it fixed since they don't make vector monitors anymore. And to repair a PCB (unless you do it yourself) costs around $200.

Area 51 and the first House of the Dead were the best light gun games. Area 51 Site Four is not that good, I find that game at a Chuckie Cheese awhile ago, I was excited to play it, but it wasn't as great as the first one, but I'm glad I played it at least once.

I played Area 51 every day when I was a teen along with the turtles and Toobin arcades

I just wanted to give you guys my thanks (is that a thing? Can you give thanks?) for taking the time and effort to edit and upload those mini-chodes of yours. This morning was the perfect time for one. I just got to work and received an email bomb which is gonna take me a while to resolve... So I needed some comfort time to zen out before tackling the bastard but didn't have much time to spend... Mini-chodes are perfect for a quick nibble in desperate times :)

Area 51 is one of those games that always looked cool to me, but I rarely played it. Most light gun games were token suckers in arcades... and I more often put masses of tokens into other games instead, like NBA Jam, TMNT, X-Men, and so on.

That said, I've been keeping my eyes open for the Area 51 port for the PlayStation; Maximum Force (the sequel) plays pretty well on the platform, so I'd love to give the original game a try.

Guys, if you want another arcade game without spending even $100, check eBay for arcade PCBs! Jay's Tekken 3 uses the JAMMA pinout, and the majority of arcade games from 1985-1999 are JAMMA. Just gotta do a little research and watch out for boards that may or may not work. TMNT and Area 51 are both JAMMA, and they'd play just fine in Jay's Tekken 3.

I'd stay away from beat em ups and light gun dedicated arcade cabinets. If you want those style of games for your home make a MAME cabinet. Don't get me wrong, I love both beat em ups and light gun games but they just don't have the longevity and you can become bored of them quickly. Those types of games work out much better if they are on location.
You will get more play out of classics that are score based or competitive multiplayer games.

Though it might not save you much dough (but it could anyway), a way to pay less at a time is to gather arcade parts and build your own, depending on the parts, the owner and the condition you could get a very cheap cabinet, albeit one you have to put together yourself.

Every time you go to one of these with $100 and don't buy anything just take that $100 and put it in a jar and eventually your dream of walking in with 2 grand can come true.

I got Area 51 at an auction for $500 back in the day. Used to dual wield in my garage all the time. Sold it a year later for $500 too, got a year of arcade action for free
