A few questions for everyone that plays online on public servers:
1. How common is it that players use a safezone to protect their personal base?
2. Is it common for players to set up public trade stations with a safezone? It seems like that's what they were intended for but how often do people actually set up trade stations on public servers?
3. Do you think safezones need to be changed to make them more practical?

I still rather the safe zone be only for NPC stations and instead of a force field, it should just be the station with hangars for ships but if players build too big they won't fit in the station. Like Elite: Dangerous where stations are actually in use not like what SE is currently like practically no one uses.

Might want some perimeter defense drones just to stall the enemy while the zone charges up

it's a good idea but I think you need to do a bit more to make it viable, from what you explained/showed it has either one of the 2 problems if the enemy goes away from 2.5km and come back
1: the event controller turns off the safe zone when he is away and restart it when he come back and you lose a zone chip each time
2: it is only a turn-on event so the safe zone is always on after it has triggered so if you are away you are not saving anything once it start
A possible solution would be add a timer block of 58 min that you start at the same time as the safe zone after the time has passe have the timer block stop the safe zone (hoping the enemy has gone away from under 2.5km) so you use the zone chip to the max

You forgot to mention the method of setting up the zone to do this. You have to start by enabling the zone, then turning the zone block off. When the block is turned bac on, it will turn on with the zone enabled, but will still need to charge for the 2 minute period

In this case if you have the PCU for it, a sensor net of several a.i drones which remote relay trigger the zone would increase the range of this.

wow... I didn't know timers/AI blocks could turn enable zones... i thought they would just get turned on but not be enabled xd

I wonder If you can keep the safe zone in a constant resetting loop of initializing with a timer block and make the AI bock just turn of the timer block to save time.
also even ad a second safe zone generator in the mix.

Don't care for safezones. But how would it work with shield mods? Would that work better?
