Started cycling 15 years ago in my fifties. Only ever buy used bikes. Got a 5 year-old Ribble r872 carbon full Ultegra for £250 the other day. New prices are ridiculous - if you're paying them you've had your head messed with.

Can’t wrap my mind around $12,000 or $6,000 keeping my used synapse and caad10 both of which I bought used for a combined price under$1600.

I'm trying to decide between this bike and a Specialized Aethos, and would love to hear your impressions of the ride quality (handling, comfort, climbing, etc) between these two bikes.

1200 euros
difference with the canyon endurance cf slx di2. even if the defy is very good it does not justify such a difference GIANT has become much too expensive

David, can the spacers be easily removed and placed on top of the stem to experiment with fit, similar to a custom spacer like that of the Cervelo Caledonia 5? Or, does the D-shaped steerer make fitting spacers on top of the stem difficult? Thanks!

Splendid review of this bike. Got myself for 5000 euro a BMC roadmachine one a few months ago , ultegra di2 also.
Brake cables are not integrated, but i rather prefer that.
No need for a power meter. So I think i'm still better off with that one.

10 Months ago I bought a new Specialized Stumpjumper Expert for 3100 Euro on a super sale! THAT was a 'Best Value' case.
But £6000 for that Defy model is a joke in 2023/24 in my personal opinion.

Yea 6000 is A LOT of money but considering what the other brands are offering, getting a full carbon frame with Ultegra DI2, integrated cable routing and LR dual power meter for 6K in today's climate seems like a pretty fair deal to me.

David, another informative video and a great channel; thank you.
However, £6K for a bike is out of my price bracket. Especially in a time where the cost of living is so high 😢.
I'll be sticking with 2000 Condor and 2018 BMC ALR01 for now.

As always, great content! I enjoy every detail (I even noticed the downtube bottle cage is mounted upside down). David, when you test the Advance Pro 0 it would be helpful if you could share your evaluation of the Power Meter. GP Lama just did a blistering review of a Shimano Power Meter... Also, curious about how tall you are. I also ride Giant bikes and am between M and M/L and need to think about which way to go. Overall, and desipite my comment about the power meter, I prefer Shimano and can see no reason why one would pay twice as much for a very similar bike with Sram. Tough time of the year to test a bike- stay warm!

Ultegra Di2 ✅
7.6kg ✅
Comfortable over 200km✅
Slightly more aggressive geometry for an old racer✅
Price in Australia? Already secured a discount…. ✅
Can’t wait to challenge my crew on - Giant Propel , Trek Edmonda .
I’ve ordered 30mm GP 5000 trs for my new Giant Defy Adv Pro 0 think I’ll fly 🤟
Looking forward to your reviews David .

I think the most overvalued part of recent bikes is drive train. Di2 .. Ultegra.. yeah it is good. But more than $15,00 on it... Really that valuable?
I think $700 is just enough .. or even less..
I will never understand that Ultegra or dura-ace version of drive train are more that $2,000.
Yeah it is pro version , so it`s price should be, but for most people.. isnt it just marketing?

Bike Industry is just "assembling" industry.
carbon frames, carbon wheels.. maybe.. those are the only part they can make profits.
If simano , sram ,campa are not dicount their part, the bike prices can not go down.

My opinion about it is that Chinese Ltwoo or others will replaces shimano, Sram

Few customers still use overvalued Shimano , Sram , but majority will be chinese one.

@frorton_9170 - 04.12.2023 23:44

This model is an endurance oriented, yet you get the "pro" version which is less comfortable and the version with the (shite) carbon wheels which makes it even stiffer. On an endurance bike.
Get the on with aluminium wheels and standard carbon frame. It's the best value in Giant's range

Why spend this much on a bike I feel? For 400€ I can get a White AX+ 290 FF, a nice-looking aluminium frame gravel bike with hydraulic brakes, 9-speed microshift gears, tan sidewall tires, midnight-blue metallic paint and a 13kg weight.

Or for 700€ I can get a White SC Lite Advent with a 10-speed microshift, hydraulic brakes, internal cable routing and an 11kg weight. I would be able to get basically the same speed on this bike as I would on the one in the video.

I was in a bike shop Saturday. A trek fx that was €670 had plastic brake levers. Greed is ruining the bike industry. They are putting cheaper parts on bikes, they are getting heaveir (4k bikes are pushing nearly 10kg) and more expensive.
No thanks, I'll keep my 2015 canyon endurance cf 10 that weighs 7.7kg.

IMO £6,000 of dullness! How does any bike cost 6k? I've been cycling for years and there's nothing there that warrants that much money. A cheap carbon frame, some hookless death trap wheels which are cheaper to make and some cheap Giant own brand parts. Not even decent tyres for 6k. The only thing on that bike worth having is the Ultegra. I bought a Carbon Giant Revolt last year with electronic gearing on it for £3,000 and the more I think about it the more I think even that is overpriced and I was ripped off. Don't even get me started on the almost £12k defy!

I have 10,000 km on my 2018 Advanced Pro 0 and I've been very happy with this bike. I do wish mine had a bit more tire clearance and fender mounts, but other than that I'm hoping I'll be able to put another 10k on the bike in the future.
I've thought about getting a newer, updated bike, but at 72 I doubt I'll ever be able to equal my bike's potential.

Kudos for reviewing a (relatively) more affordable bike. Frustrating when it's only top end bikes that are reviewed.

Any chance of reviewing the Scott Addict? Keen to see how that compares to the new Defy as another example of a speedier endurance bike.

Keep up the good work
