I'm also a rank beginner and I built a set up very similar to yours except I didn't use any busbars. I did install a shut off switch between the battery and the controller and also a shutoff switch between the solar panels and the controller. I also have a 15-amp fuse between the panels and the controller. Mine is an immoveable installation inside the house but I looooove your mobile station. Very inspiring. I give you a big thumbs up and I saved the video to my Solar folder for future reference. Thanks!

This looks awesome.
So you can have things plugged in and solar charging at the same time to prolong the battery?

Nice system you built there. Do you worry about earth grounded/bonded appliances not having an earth ground when running on a system like that? I have a solar power station I built in a portable heavy duty tote that is based on the Victron Smart Solar MPPT 30 100, two 100ah LiFePO4 batteries and a Go Power! 2000w pure sign inverter but its not earth grounded. In the limited conversations I've had with people who claim to understand the electrical safety I'm still confused on the right setup for home use and metal appliances. One person told me if the system is not earth grounded I should only run one device, like a fridge or a microwave for example but never have them plugged in at the same time. The reasoning is pretty simple, if the grounds are bonded together on the same inverter and one of them has an electrical fault you can end up closing the loop if you put your hands on the fridge and microwave at the same time and then get potentially electrocuted. I would hope they are not bonded together but its dependent on how your inverter is designed/wired in internally, my Go Power inverter has an internal bonded chassis ground as its designed for RV's, it also has a GFCI built in so I hope that saves me if something does happen. I also have an EcoFlow River 2 Max, the manual says nothing about it being floating or bonded on the AC output. I feel like this should be stated in the manual but these being designed as a portable unit probably means they are floating/unbonded.

You should be a instructor. Your build was interesting as well as easy to follow and understand. I'm not an electrician but have watched similar videos where the presenter explains a build but it sounds like a scientific textbook to the person watching.

2.5KWh - inverter inefficiencies.....so nearer 2KW.... So that should cover you for a 3 or 4 hour blackout if you turn everything except your Wifi, fridge and TV off.
So how much will it cost for your viewers to copy your work? $1000+ depending on the panels and charge controller brand.
$500 will buy you a 1200W generator and all the fuel you need for several days of power outage.

I think you just saved me a ton of money instead of going through some of the big solar brand setups that cost a lot for a fraction of what you could put out with this. I do have a few questions though:
1) That amp that you have... can it supply continuous power out at it's max output? or will is it best to use just half of the output like typical solar generators where the life span of the generator is preserved greatly by using 50% or less of the output energy it's rated for?
2) If you wanted to upgrade the amp that you have, what would be the ratio to the battery? What do you think that battery could safely handle in terms of an amp drawing power from?
3) Have you done any follow up tests with your setup for consistent long use?

Thank you!

you should run 60amp fuses. theres no way you would ever pop those 200a fuses right now.

I've been wanting to build something similar with a battery that size to power my window ac unit. Assuming that the AC unit uses 500 watts, I might get 5 hours of usage after the sun goes down, and that's if the battery gets 100 percent discharged which I hear is a bad thing. Ideally, you would also want to generate 500 watts of energy, maybe a bit more, to keep the battery topped off for when it stops charging.

200 amp hour? Heck I get 160 amp hours for each of my group 29 batteries for about $120 each.
The dollar per amp hour costs are more important.

That is about as stripped down as you want. about the only thing that is optional is the shunt. Which is not necessary if the battery you are using has bluetooth. Which a lot of them are. You can link your phone to them and the app will tell you the state of charge. Tidy build though!

100ah battery seems useless. Look for a 400ah to make it more useful.
I’m really curious about your assessment of the battery after 11 months.
