I think HUB relies way too much on clean install benchmarks and doesn't take real world into account enough. I will take a slightly slower per core performance and have more cores. For example, I would take the 5500 over a 12100 every time. Once your system is setup with apps and you factor in multiplayer games the extra cores will pay off. Yeah, getting to a 5600 would be better too, but that is a different discussion. Try 4 cores on Warzone and it will suffer greatly. My 12400f would hit 100% usage so I couldn't imagine a 12100. My 3700x would destroy the 12400 for smoothness in Warzone.

I'm running a 3600 with an RX 570. My daughter has a 5500 with an RX580. We run nearly identical numbers on many tests. And to play on either one doesn't matter. You cannot tell the difference.

I don't agree with the conclusion. As you can see, the 5500 beats the 3600 in most cases, allthough the difference is very little. As shown in other Benchmarks, the power consumption of the 5500 is significantly lower, about 30 Watt in most games while performing slightly better or at least equal to the 3600. Temperatures are also alot lower. He did not include any benchmarks besides gaming. No synthetical benchmarks or programs like Blender or Cinebench. The results would have show, that the 5500 performs 10-15% better than the 3600. That is about the same margin as 5500 vs 5600. The prices for 3600 and 5500 are relatively equal, whereas the 5600 costs 40% more, but you don't get close to 40% better performance, neither in games nor in applications. People who are using b3xx or b4xx chipsets won't have PCIE 4.0 anyway, so for them it is not relevant. If you build a new system, things are different of course. Since i am posting one year after the video was launched, i would not recommend to buy AM4 Socket anymore. Go for AM5 or 1700. For people who are sitting on First or Second Gen Ryzen, the 5500 is a great upgrade. I replaced my 1700 with 5500 due to the idle freeze issue. I am glad, that i don't have to spend 150$ or more for a CPU on a dead platform. BTW most people have a budget for their future purchases. I often hear, just pay 40-50 Dollar extra and you get extra performance. Sure, i could do that, i could easily afford a much more expansive PC, though the priorities changes, when you have a family and a full time job. Maybe i am not the target group of the video, idk.

I would say rx 6650 xt and ryzen 5 3600 is the best budget combo under 600euros, i dont think its worth upgrading to 5500 because of the pci 3.0. Otherwise get the 5600x.

My entire pc is all pcie 3.0 so the whole "lack of pcie 4.0" doesn't matter to me. Also.. I'm getting this ryzen 5 5500 upgrade for free as a gift to replace my R3 3200g, so I cant complain. Plus.. all I care about is making my pc fast enough for games to be playable at medium settings. I run at a pretty low resolution anyways using an overclocked out-of-the-box gt 1030 from evga. people always complain saying... "oh this part right here is crap".. yet they don't really take the time to think how bad other people have it. some people cant afford an expensive gaming rig and appreciate what upgrades they get.. even if they are small.

There's a lot of back and forth between the 5500 and 3600. To the point I'm not even sure it could be considered a sidegrade if you already owned a 3600. Pretty interesting. If it's a choice between those two I'd have to recommend the 3600. 5600 vs 3600 comes down to price.

the 5500 has an infinity fabric issue/ bus overload when using a sound card or usb dac/interface with a x16 gpu, causes audio drop outs and stuttering, i would avoid it for this reason.

not too fair competition toward 3600, since it supports pci4, while b350 doesnt have it

When I compared prices on eBay vs Amazon / New Egg, I found used B350 and B450 barely cheaper than new B550 boards. I also found that used Ryzen 5 3600X CPU to be barely cheaper than new Ryzen 5 5500 CPUs. Also many of the used CPUs do not appear to have their Wraith Stealth Coolers anymore. You add the cooler in and the Ryzen 5 3600x may very well then jump to being more expensive than the Ryzen 5 5500. You also will get something of a warranty with the new CPU and motherboards.

I live in New Zealand and a Ryzen 5 3600 is $160 whereas the Ryzen 5 5500 is $165 (so bugger all of a difference in price, should I get the 3600? or should I spend the extra 5 bucks for the 5500?

Now that the 5500 is hitting $80 USD, it's a solid deal depending on the games you play (when upgrading from Zen, Zen+, or trying to put together a budget platform)

just got a used 5500 + b450m mortar max for $130 haven't try it yet still waiting for the other part, but this is the cheapest Ryzen 5 i can get, in my country 3600 is $130 and 5600 retail at $140 and the best cheapest b450m is around $90, so i decided to go with the sale instead, not fully satisfied with my decision but its not like I can anything better at that price anyway at that price i basically got either the CPU or the GPU for free, i think lol

I was looking for a home server upgrade from the r7 2700x that is inside, i never use more then 4 cores 8 threds. Now i have concluded that Ryzen 5 5600 is the one to get

funfact, the 5500 is just the 5600G with the GPU disabled.

This processor got some pretty steep discounts in the Canadian market near the end of 2022 making it very enticing. It has a really nice performance increase from a 3200g my son's computer had. That computer's upgrade path is pretty abnormal though as I built it to be extremely basic as a teaching tool on how a computer works, how to trouble shoot and what parts do what.
