RICH people drive their Mercedes without a care in the world, I saw that a lot in Commiefornia. What is the difference between a BMW and a cactus? The pricks are on the outside of the cactus.

I promise you the Amish aren't forgiving because of the benefits to themselves, but because it is a biblical command. While there are benefits, it's unlikely the personal benefits are their motivation.

A lot of people around our non amish area have similar buggies. Also, many motorcycles and small cars such as smart cars are small and ride low. My motorcycle is about the same height as one of these carts. It is a three wheeled ryker. I realize this woman did not purposefully do this, and i think the amish families response as christians was very appropriate. But there are huge issues with people not paying attention on the road like they should. Dashboard computers. Possible cell phone useage. So, while I dont think it sounds criminal. But, people really do not pay close attention when they drive. For all practical purposes they are operating a lethal projectile and do not take it seriously enough.

Why is it when in Scotland - THEY STOP AND YIELD FOR HERDS OF SHEEP but in the U.S. we complain about a few minutes wait. These roads are marked for Amish passage. Pay attention to the road. Yes, accidents do happen and I feel bad for all involved. Sometimes an accident is an accident.

Such a beautiful and Christlike response to their tragedy! You have to wonder why Amish families don't do homeschooling so young children don't have to frequently navigate roadways to get to school.

There is so much we can learn from the Amish; we just have to be willing to walk in peace and forgiveness like that. But it does come from God; it's not just something we can muster up on our own. It won't happen overnight, but it can happen. What would this world be like if we did? What would our city be like if we did? What would our homes be like if we did? It is a choice. Choose peace.

I remember that School Shooting. So many years ago. There was a lot of Money raised; for the Families of the Children, perished in that School. The Amish Families went to the wife and his Children; who did the shooting. They offered the donation to her. It wasn't her fault and the Grief for her.

Very good story!!!!! Thank you so very much!!!! I grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania, to the west of Philadelphia in the suburbs, so we would get to drive to the Lancaster area, etc., and see a lot of the Amish there! I went to a boarding school/day school and I did a paper on the Amish and Mennonite and shaker population in the area, etc., so I learned a lot about them!!! But I have learned so much more, as I have gotten older!!!! I really appreciate them and their society and religion and their families and their ways!!! And their knowledge of the gospel and their ability to forgive quickly!!!! Thanks again, Love, Sister(for we are all brothers and sisters in Christ) Gay Michaelis, and family!!! ❤️👏🤗✝️🇺🇸✡️🇮🇱🙏🪻🌷🌸🌼😇

Forgiveness is wonderful but it won’t bring their children back. There is nothing wrong with expressing grief. I’m so sorry for the young driver and of course for the parents. I wish they’d build a separate lane just next to but not real close to the highway. Just heartbreaking 💔

Suggestion... Slow down, pay attention, double up on that ethic when approaching a blind curve or blind rise in the road. STOP being so comfy in your 4wheel cocoons. If you have no empathy please stay deep in the city.

Tragic. As others have said, prayers for all. May not apply to this specific event. However:
I live in Amish country. As the creator commented, our area has hilly curvy terrain. Drivers' vision distance is highly limited. When I was a kid, I was forbidden to ride my bike on those country roads. Too dangerous. As an adult, I wouldn't consider riding my bike on those roads. Add that Amish buggies are even slower than my bike so the stopping distance, once spotted, is shorter. Add that buggies are harder to see because they are black and easily blends into the shadows. Add that on my bike, I could ditch at the last minute but a buggy can't. Add that my bike is much narrower and easier for a car to avoid. Frankly, it's really dangerous to put buggies on the road.
Also consider that the government imposes major safety regulations on cars. And the government requires that you wear a seat belt. And the government requires that you put your baby in a baby seat. But the Amish choose to put use difficult to see vehicles with absolutely no safety framework. The Amish choose to put themselves, and the rest of traffic, in harms way. It's legal. It's tragic. But that's the set up.

Those babies, it’s so heartbreaking all around 😞💔

I do think that with this accident there should be a push to take some tax $$ to build a little paved road for the buggies, alongside the main roads, near the Amish communities. That way everyone can get to where they are going safely.

CULTURE should NOT come before safety! WHEN are amish going to WAKE UP and discard some ridiculous aspects of their culture (which has NO Biblical basis despite their holy demeanor) so these tragedies will STOP! these accidents dont just affect them, it affects the cars who hit them, and their families also.

Pretty sure if they don't forgive they risk being shunned. Amish rules of conformity are razor sharp. Not sure if any of them are even allowed emotions in the pure sense of the word. They walk a very narrow path.

That is definitely a tragedy and my prayers go out to the family. I appreciate when they extend forgiveness as expressed here, but it is quite confusing for me to understand how this type of forgiveness is possible to people they don’t know when there is absolutely no forgiveness and even end up, shunning their own people when they leave their church because of some of the unscriptural things that their church is doing that they cannot support. And they’re shunning is a total rejection of the people to the point of not including them at weddings or any family events and especially not eating with them.
I was at a funeral setting at a table, eating with a lot of Amish people and some non-Amish when all of a sudden there was a jerking and shaking of the table, spilling drinks and coffee because some of the Amish realized that they were eating at a table where an ex Amish was also eating. We couldn’t figure out what is going on right away, but then learned from their discussion that they need to separate the two tables that are butted up against each other to create a little gap, so they would not be considered guilty for eating with an ex Amish. Could you please explain where the forgiveness is in that picture?

In active construction zones , they have double fines and possibly jail time for speeding or hurting a construction worker , why not apply the same to all roads that the amish have to use. So that they have the same protection as construction workers

I live about 10 minutes from where this happened. Within the last 2 years sadly there have been so many fatal Amish buggy/cart/bike accidents! We don’t have any side roads for them on the busy roads, and that should change. With that said, there have been far too many vehicle drivers that aren’t driving responsibly, not all are under the influence, they just aren’t paying close attention. I love seeing the Amish way of life, but believing that God chose someone to kill their children is so messed up! It’s just their way of coping why it happened. One more change that needs to happen is, unless you are with an adult, you have to be at least 16 yr old to be driving anything on the road. It’s the law after all, and needs to include them. Far too many young Amish kids driving tractors, hay wagons, buggies & carts.
