The changes to Pinehurst 2 made the course less difficult. It may be better, but it is less difficult without consistent, lush, thick rough.

When you said it was difficult to watch I totally agree. I know the U.S. Open it was supposed to be difficult to play but that was stupidly difficult. So difficult it was cringy to watch.

Bryson is compelling to watch. The tension and drama when he was standing over that bunker shot on 18 needing an up and down was palpable. The TV camera from behind wasn’t able to provide enough clarity so when he first hits it you go “where is it?” …which immediately kicks your heart rate up a few beats a minute. Then they switch cameras and you see it arcing down not far from the pin, then it hits the green and rolls out less than four feet and if your main guy is Rory its a sinking feeling, but it your main guy is Bryson its euphoric. Nobody who watched that moment gets away without experiencing a deep emotional feeling for one guy or the other. Holy smokes, it doesn’t get better than that. None of that “oh, it’s just Tiger beating the field again for the umpteenth time”.

I started playing golf a few years ago and bryson was my favourite golfer then and realised everyone hated on him which I didn't really get, I don't see much change with him tbh if you saw him on other channels from years ago. But now everyone loves him which I'm glad people have come too see that he is a good person.

Bryson had to take it upon himself to show who he is after the pga's smear campaign against him. Anyone who goes against the establishment gets turned into a villain. Thats whats amazing about platforms like yt for example where he can create his own content and people stop seeing him through the msm lens.

But I think Bryson did miss a short one also.

I agree… I wanted to see a playoff at the end for the exact reason Rick… would have been awesome! Would have loved to see him lose to Bryson in a playoff… lol. Love me some Bryson… Rory is a good dude.. I like as well.. but I wanted a LIV golfer to take down the tourney to hopefully help to force the hand of the “snooty PGA Bush league” to get it together and make some sort merger work.. so we can see all the greats golfing together again in all tourneys…

Bryson is refreshing to watch. Celebrating his victory, showing emotions. Most players win a tournament and there is hardly any reaction. Bloody boring. I feel for Rory, that loss hurts. But thats also life - you win and you lose. Rory will win again. Congrats to BD

Before Brysons YT channel I wasn't a fan. Now I get to see behind the scenes and his thinking and methods and actually connect more with him as a golfer I'm a massive fan. I don't feel that same connection with any other golfer on tour. Plus YT golf is so much more player lead as opposed to boring old golf commentary which needs to change massively to an NBA and NFL style of commentary. YT will become more popular then professional golf and I don't think they see it coming yet

I agree with you Rick in that it was a hard watch. Loads of great golf shots were executed only to be ripped apart by what I feel were unfair greens. I believe that if it was on a different course then there would have been a different winner, and I don't necessarily mean McIlroy.

I don't know anyone in the real world who hated Bryson. 99% of the hate was propaganda made by the media to sell his story. He was box office for being different and out spoken about his methods, and the media jumped on it and spun a yarn to sell. Even the Bryson vs Brooks was blown up to be bigger than it was. Bryson has always been a nice guy. 👍

Love Rick but for the life of me I couldn’t believe it when he said it was too hard!! I hate it when players get to 20 under!!!! Gripping golf is when the best players in the world are struggling and they need to show us why they’re the best in the world. Legit could not disagree more with Rick on that take

He’s playing some great golf I don’t like how he plays but it’s effective. If that us open was at any other course he wouldn’t have won you can’t hit it all over the course and consistently miss fairways and win on a course with legit rough. Again he played well and did what he needed to do to win but his game isn’t golf and shouldn’t be rewarded for how far he hits it if he can’t hit fairways all the time.

bryson has helped change golf into the novelty version desired by those who own the novelty sport and sell overprice novelty equipment that has no place in tournament golf.
it has ruined the game by changing it from 'shot making' into 'bomb and gouge', with limited competition, since there are only so many gorillas who can hit 350 yard drives into the rough on every hole, leaving wedges to every green...
since when is that golf?
since the novelty club makers made a deal with the pga to alter the game...bryson is one of the few lucky benefactors of playing against a limited field on courses designed just for their novelty games.
when was the last time that a u.s open champion missed every fairway and won? twice now with bryson, since so few others could be competitive on the stretched out novelty courses. 500 yard par 4's...that's not golf, that's novelty golf, and it has reduced the game from real mastery of the swing, to something measured in meaningless metrics like, club head speed and ball speed.
who cares about ball speed...golf is about mastery of the swing as demonstrated by shot making ability, which was always measured by FAIRWAYS and GREENS in regulation.

Bryson has become the modern era Arnold Palmer, with an army of fans, great crowd interaction, a ferocious competitive desire to win...not too mention serious power!
Heck Rick, I found that final round to be extremely intense...I could feel it through my television! Yes, the opposite of boring, lol!

Rick, you are friends with Bryson but throwing that “shade” on him at the beginning. You know him, very nice guy. Approaches golf as most golfers do, just openly discussing what works for him and why. Not trying to get anyone to think it’s the only way. He celebrates everyone’s talent. Willing to help everyone out. That’s Bryson.

I have always rooted for Rory, but l have become a big Bryson fan in the last few months so l was torn between those two. l was happy that Bryson won, but l felt terrible for Rory.

What he does for golf is absolutely fantastic, people dislike something or someone from the norm.
the way he hits it and his all round game is top what is there to dislike ????

I'm sure if Rory had won Bryson would have shook his hand !
