We believe this solo proves that Tommy Bolin was the greatest electric guitar player since electric guitar became a thing in the late 60s - you’ve got to remember - this is basically improvised off the top of his head with the red light on at Electric Lady Studios. He never developed this solo before he “learned” these songs while they were there, they didn’t do a big rehearsal. It was done basically LIVE. Think about that and think about all the ingredients all the elements all the expression all the technique that is in this solo - nobody who is on all the top 100 guitarist could’ve done what happened in this solo that day.
