Edwina, just like the birds and the bees and the squirrel who makes love on a tree, had sexual needs. Mountbatten was more into teenage boys and could not cover her wife's desire for a man, so she turned away from him into Nehru's (amongst other) arms and who knows what else. Good for her!

Terrible editing

Love at first sight my arse. First of all Mountbatten was gay and secondly if he fell in love with anything, it was her money, which he needed to finance his long term plan to avenge the anger and embarrassment of his father being demoted from his position in the navy.
