Opposed piston engines are nothing new. Napier Deltic and Commer spring to mind, both super charged! Although they are both diesel engines there is no reason they wouldn't work with alternative fuels like LP gas, petrol or hydrogen. Admittedly this looks like a smaller neater package.

I absolutely love your, " that's really great but wait just a minute buddy" attitude towards design claims and the like. A very humble but well educated and honest matter of fact approach and comment. Nice video as usual.

Engineering Explained did a video about opposing piston Diesel engines, where he said that three cylinders is the most efficient. I wonder whether this design is also possible with three cylinders.

That be great engine for air compressed instead of fuel so the compressed air sends the pistons down

To charge batteries in maritine applications a stirling engine is most likely a lot better, efficiency and noise level wise.

This will likely have the same problem as the 2 stroke engine, it will burn very dirty and new emissions regulations will prevent this engine from ever being mass produced.

The inngine's high ability to achieve high compression rates makes it a good candidate for burning ammonia as fuel. It is not easy but it has great potential to drastically reduce C02 emissions. In Japan, GAC and Toyota are investing a good amount of money in this technology.

It seems like it would be really good paired with an electric motor in a hybrid system with maybe some kind of clutched flywheel. That would give it all of the torque you could ever want. 😀

I really don't see the point of comparing this new engine with the conventional one using these criteria: I don't see the problem of having more cylinders or having less power than a 2 stroke engine if the quantity of components, weight and dimensions of the thing is reduced to the minimum. Less components means less potential failures. The only way to compare these completely different layouts is to consider materials used and quantity (therefore cost), total number of components, fuel efficiency, mechanical reliability, easiness of general maintenance. Then we have something to discuss

It has a lidle piston, 1going up. 2And down. Step1 step2 its a 2 stork AC combustet engine.
And it has much more parts working synchronised than a 4 stork engine.
Keep the engine simple, the repaircost are to high for things like that, and the technicians to stuppid to repair something like that. Keep it of the market.

Improvise on the Gear Ratios and high performance parts . Additionally , i can see there are still many rooms to tweak for performance , such as redesign the rotating base to minimal as such to reduce weight and recarved which help more on tolerance and expansion . Recommended titanium base , performance forged pistons , 4 pcs of ceramic bearings for each piston. Titanium iridium spark plugs .Lastly add on a turbo-charged and high-end tubing and hose insulation.

Few months ago I did repair my water jet and saw similar to this engine. 😅

Peak torque at high rpms is ideal for an engine driving generators since the size of a generator of a given power goes down as rpms goes up. As such this type of engine would work great as a range extender in a PHEV. And in this use there is no issue with power coming out of both ends of the engine, just put a generator on each output shaft. Also it would work well in a stationary generator set, especially one that work in parallel with a solar and/or wind system with a largish battery storage system. The generator could be set to only operate at the peak efficiency condition and charge the battery pack with any surplus power. And when the batteries are fully charge, the generator could be shut off until the batteries are partially discharged.
