Final conclusion from ChatGPT

Summary

You’ve identified a clever and plausible path toward an advanced, rules-compliant thermal system that:
• Makes use of solid-state cooling (TEC),
• Exploits latent heat absorption (PCM),
• And could even offer tire pre-warming as a side benefit.

This type of system could work entirely within air-cooled-only regulations if designed right and might already be in experimental use given the water drips and tight-lipped teams.

Not sure if I completely buy this, but going with Dr. Obbs observations/analysis, what if the wiring/mechanism that would be (likely) required to use this electro-controlled plating technology is actually being hidden in what appears to be an additional brake air duct (?). I also wonder if you could hide most of the tech within the wheel drum itself with a single wire routed internally (through one of the wheel struts, credit to Dr. Obbs) to supply the power for the entire assembly(?). But you use a temp sensor alone (in the drum) to determine the activation commands for the electo-plates (self-contained, preset, and no driver input required). There have been external shots of the McLaren brake drum that could hint at electrical insulation. BUT, I still don’t know Cameron this is still sketchy (while not outright illegal) and I think we still would have seen a different response from the FIA even if they could not doing anything about it this year (especially if they [only after RBR probing] have decided to make it illegal next year). I am thinking about the callout on McLaren of their mini-DRS rear wing last year. That to was not determined (at the time) to be “outright” illegal, but the FIA still told McLaren they were speeding and asked them to no longer use the wing. In any case, Imola was intriguing from a tire deg perspective and a new screen capture of McLaren’s brake drums probably could provide some updated insight, but only time will tell. Cheers!

So in other words a whole bunch of accusations by the inevitable xtian horny, the infamous pointing the finger of the "rogue" marshall, always making up stuff, the same person whose car last year had something in the front of the car that allowed to adjust the ride height, the one sided brake balance tech that made the fia come out of nowhere and implement a rule change asap, rarely done in f1 history, and let's not forget breaking the cost cap.

This Peltier - device solution being completely legal for this year , Redbull bringing this up specifically to the FIA and Dr.Obbs saying "So game on" just tells me that Redbull is already or already has been working on this kind of solution. Who knows maybe they even implemented a prototype version already in Imola hence the Performance boost in race pace. Even if this istn Mclarens Cooling - Trick im sure Redbull will bring this Peltier - Device Solution on their car in the near future. Who knows maybe even in Spain, because Redbull certainly didnt come up with this idea in just a week or so . Spain will be a Festival for sure

I concur with the view that a sudden drop off in performance after a dominating period, coming off a rule change, strongly suggests illegal cars. What you should add is that is what happened to Red Bull and that seems to lost on most Utube commentators.

Took me a while but here we go. The theory of water extraction for evaporative cooling could explain McLaren’s superior tyre management in Miami but not in Imola. Miami’s high humidity (around 60%) allows the hybrid system to condense water (0.05–0.1 g/s), reducing tyre temperature by 6–8°C and degradation by 12–16%, giving McLaren an edge. In Imola’s moderate humidity (around 40%), water extraction is minimal (0.02 g/s), providing only 1–2°C cooling, matching competitors’ performance. This aligns with McLaren’s observed advantage in Miami disappearing in Imola.

Speculating about potential loopholes/cheats being used is honestly one of the best things about F1. I remember in 2023 season when Redbull had the "triple DRS diffuser/beamwing" and was blowing past other cars at will on the straights. Everybody in the sport was speculating what it could be and Redbull was even cheeky enough to say early in the season that they were surprised other teams didnt figure it out yet. The so called purist fans imo are the people who are into the engineering side of the sport and not just necessarily someone who has watched it for a life time. People in this comment section and others alike chiming in with their theories and some even having experience in the technical aspects of materials/mechanisms being used. In Baku last year it was F1 fans who spotted the Mclaren "mini DRS" rear wing when watching Piastris rear wing cam when it would show Leclerc chasing him down the straights, Ferarri, Mercedes, and Redbull should be sending those fans a bonus!

I this whole McLaren brake bullshit conspiracy is just an excuse that Max fans will be able to use when Max loses the drivers championship they just can’t except that Max is not gonna win this year drivers championship. Max has had two great races so far . I’m no Max fan but I can admit he’s the greatest driver of his generation but he will not be 2025 driver championship and it’s just an excuse how many times does the FIA
said you they checked McLaren‘s brake system found nothing wrong then you take the fact that they added some rule banning phase changing material and that air can only be used to cool the brakes and somehow you take that as McLaren got caught cheating just accept it. There’s no smoking gun here I hope you’re all congratulate Oscar when he takes the drivers championship from Max and just stopped with the bullshit. Red Bull just got out engineered and innovated and they’re crying about it as they usually do.

Legend as always Cameron. Oh the humanity, FIA not clamping down on the thermoelectric temperature regulation until next year baffles me because if people are thinking about it and FIA strictly only allowing air to cool these systems then surely by banning it straightaway to see if any changes in the grid will expose anyone who might have used this similarly with PCMs. Agree with comments if FIA just testing these elements at room temperature ofc PCMs used will go undetected. More to be done for it to be transparent esp from FIA regarding their testing parameters.

Every tech savvy person who has ever thought about cooling and heating knows about Peltier devices. A semiconductor device that cools one side and heats the other when current is applied. Maybe the wiring connectors were hidden in with the sensor connecting leads? Interesting.

Excellent Cameron. Gold standard, God tier reporting, and even the headline is proportional this time around too. Well done. Incidentally, just on both the Flexi wing and TEC - Baldy (I don’t recall his name) over at the Blatantly Biased Podcast claims to have a man on the inside at McLaren. Said inside man, has told him that the team has already been running the new spec wing for much of this year, that is that the current wing’s flex is within the new 10mm regulation, as opposed to the old spec 15mm. Hence, that aspect of the new regs will be a non-event, particularly for McLaren. Baldy seems so far pretty credible, though the sample size is a bit thin given that I’ve only recently begun watching that podcast. On TEC, it sounds like Red Bull, through their, urmm …. I’ll call it, “protest of elimination” …. have only just now learned the generalities surrounding McLaren’s brake/tyre cooling technology. If so, then I would think that they’re the best part of a year behind in development, and therefore it would be unlikely to have much relevancy in 2025. As I said last time, just watch for the natural ebb and flow throughout the season, which boils down more to the infinite multitude of variables that govern qualifying and race pace. Please, do your best to maintain the high standards achieved with this video, and as a consequence I’ll bugger off and leave you alone for a while. Cheers and best.

Funny that thermo electric cooling can only strictly be used to cool sensors and mclaren just so happens to have mystery sensors accessible through a small, sealable, access hole in their brake drum covers. In this application it becomes a perfectly legal cooling solution because the T.E. device is cooling the sensor and just so happens to be in an area where a collateral by product is cooling other nearby elements... conveniently enough the tires are simply near said sensor. At least we now know WHY they placed those sensors there, it wasnt to run tests, it was to exploit a loophole.

A gas is a fluid. Evaporating water in the cockpit, then ducting it to the brakes does 2 things - increases the thermal capacity of the air to absorb heat as well as reducing the temperature of the air through evaporation.
I think that VCHP were used you'd have to destructively test for liquids. While Peltier stacks can provide cooling, it's basically a heat pump that also generates a lot of heat - whereas heat pipes can now be printed into 3d shapes and achieve thermal management completely passively.
With peltier, you've still got the problem of where to dump the heat - as you're only moving it small distances - so you'd need a thermal mass for this to work - like a phase change material...
