w/ Abercrombie, DeJohnette, Eddie Gomez or Dave Holland (bass) & Lester Bowie, of The Art Ensemble of Chicago, on trumpet. Saw them once live in Eugene. Outstanding show.

They were really a jazz supergroup. I think Abercrombie was overshadowed by being a contemporary of John McLaughlin - undeservedly. He did fantastic work under his own brand and tons of collaborations. Fine composer. He is on so many of my favorite recordings.

I've seen this group four times and they delivered. I miss John Abercrombie he was always my to go to guitarist...he had it all may he rest in peace 🙏 🙏 ☮️ !!!!!

Apart from some wicked good solos with Miles Davis on Cellar Door sessions, DeJohnette's long, inventive solos with Gateway are my faves.

Saw Abercrombie on shrooms in the mid 90's. Needless to say it was one of the most wonderful live performances I've ever experienced.

Abercrombie plays fast and interesting, and without a pick. Wow, just wow.

I can listen and watch this tune over and over, and every time I hear something new. John's non-linear playing is amazing, and I love Dave's driving bass line and Jack's incredible drumming- he supports the tune with both strength and subtlety. I was so fortunate to hear John live several times in addition to following his music for several decades. Miss him...

Can anybody identify that custom Tele with tremolo/3 pickup comb?. John could make any guitar sound amazing... I know that for a fact--got to see him several times.

I keep coming back to this video again and again. Must have heard it fifty times, at least. Still can't figure out exactly how or what Jack is doing to make it all happen.
