As a PhD student in quantum science and information, I don’t mind the bubble bursting. Sure, there will be less funding, but currently I see millions spend on bullshit projects just because they put as many buzzwords into the proposal as possible. I hope that after such a burst, there will be more focus on what is doable and practible.
ОтветитьGood stuff, Sabine. As always I appreciate your perspective.
ОтветитьBlack is your colour
ОтветитьMy impression is that half of "Quantum Stuff" doesn't have anything to do with quantum, and the other half doesn't work.
OK, there might be some exceptions from this rule. Some of "Quantum Stuff" both doesn't have anything to do with quantum and doesn't work.
It's a massive fraud. There will never be a quantum computer because quantum state superposition is a fantasy, it's not real, and it's impossible. It comes from the ridiculous double-slit experiment, and the wave-particle duality nonsense. All they managed to make are analog random number generators.
ОтветитьWonderful presentation, thank you.
ОтветитьEntaglement} The fact that one object can effect another object at even large distances definetly seems spooky. If you cant find out how it works then i think somthing is missing in physics.
Your left with a bunch of formulas that work somtime, floundering trying to connect it all. Kinda where science is with quantum computing.
When a "science" channel becomes antiscience. The only thing she is doing is discouraging young people to research bleeding edge technology.
Ответить😊😃
ОтветитьThanks for sharing such valuable information! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (air carpet target dish off jeans toilet sweet piano spoil fruit essay). How can I transfer them to Binance?
ОтветитьShe clearly pours some sense into overhyped ideas which people waste so much money into. But it is certainly discouraging as an undegraduate who's aiming work on the evolution of QC. I don't believe all the hype as well and i understand the the true and honest potential of QC. Still how she makes it look makes me want to consider something else. It takes decades to bring up something new like this, why kick the bucket now.
ОтветитьLove this, deliciously observant, funny, sharp and acidic all at the same time.
ОтветитьAgreed. Right now it's useless. BUT, once we get AI to help out with quantum algorithms, and hardware is improved, there will be a quantum spring after the winter. The potential is as big as fire. The commercial application will only be the tip of the iceberg.
Ответитьas a point of advice: never quote "the guardian" for ANYTHING.
it's just not a good idea in general.
moors law has also not been true in over 10 years at this point.
ОтветитьBig whoop. Sounds like building an antikythera device out of ice cubes.
ОтветитьYou are so mean. I feel second-hand sympathy for any target of your criticism, and breathe a sigh of relief when you use a phrase like "perfectly adequate." But God you are fun to watch.
ОтветитьMy guess is quantum computers are written off as one of the biggest failures of technology then suddenly in three hundred years someone in a small, dying field makes some breakthrough that makes them extraordinarily useful for a purpose we could never predict, there's massive hype around them, a general stockmarket rally, and they realize they aren't going to change society but are useful for whatever that thing was.
ОтветитьQuantum computing, dark matter, & string theory not real but good for sucking up grant money.
ОтветитьSome smart people publicity stated they didn’t see a need for PCs in the future, and now we’er holding one. Someone tell me where to send my money.
ОтветитьProf Hossenfelder would have predicted a winter for fusion research 45 years ago because it wouldn't work. She would have been right on the wouldn't work, but wrong on the winter. It doesn't work like that. She also almost entirely skipped over the most scaleable method to build a quantum computer - using photons as qbits. Lots of new tech has a threshold.. look at blue LEDs... once you overcome the hurdle it goes fast.. We will see....
ОтветитьTo be honest, the M&M thing is awesome
Ответитьand who says Physcist can't make great comedians !
ОтветитьThought the 100qbits actually means something but commercial applications needing 100k or millions.. Yeah makes it sound like need complete change from foundations to reach those numbers. Much bigger baby steps so far than I thought.
ОтветитьSomeone has made an E-Cat Power generator that collects energy from the zero-point quantum vacuum energy field, and has demonstrated a golf-cart sized car where the battery contains more energy after driving a few miles! Will this work if no one looks at the car?
ОтветитьOf course, it is possible to do a weather simulation on a quantum computer. If a classical computer can do it, a quantum computer can do it too. The problem is a lot more nuanced than what is being said here.
ОтветитьBefore I retired, I worked adjacent to a lot of optical quantum computing people. Their behaviour and the way they hyped everything made me extremely cynical about the prospects of the field. Factoring 21 may be one of their most remarkable achievements. I hadn't seen much else while I was still working, and although I haven't bothered to follow the field, I doubt if there have been any real practical advantages.
ОтветитьQuantum Computing is at the same time a dramatic misunderstanding, a hoax and a scam
Ответитьit look like quan tum computer is build on therry for believe.
Ответитьquantum computing is for profits.
ОтветитьThe bubble is still bulging. What's the current status?
ОтветитьAy ay ay. This isn't the age of quantum, it's the age of the tech bubble 🙄
ОтветитьI am SO pleased it is vanishing like a fart in the wind , GOOD RIDDANCE ...The same goes for Climate change, Dark energy ,Dark matter ,Multiverses, pronouns D E I and other garbage
ОтветитьThanks!
Ответить"If u look at them do they collapse ?" 🤣
ОтветитьGuilty laugh escapes from a Christian man when I heard "Natures a B_tch" why I love Sabine!
ОтветитьThis didnt age well with google just releasing the Willio 105 qubit quantum chip
ОтветитьM&M stacker might be useful in other fields, like in surgery?
ОтветитьI lost close to a 1000$ I wish I would've seen this video before.
I don't understand why small quantum computing companies are even allowed at the stock market since they have nothing. No revenue. No product. No research.
Comparing quantum computers to nuclear fusion is absurd.
We already have working prototypes for quantum computers but still anything for fusion that can be remotely profitable.
I would think the Universe is indifferent too our understanding of it?
Ответить2 years ago.
lmao
That M&M guy got some serious clout! If he could do that again, I'd hire him for a birthday party :)
ОтветитьWhen it comes to the money in a bubble very little is actually being used to advance the technology. The vast majority of it is used in investment schemes to create more money. And due to the ridiculous exponential nature of the fiat currency system all of the money has been created by taking advantage of deception and not by creating or doing anything useful to give it some tangible value. But whenever the major investment vehicles have their attention directed towards the next big new thing this, like all bubbles will bust and egos as well as wallets will become empty and hollow.
ОтветитьThe most common “quantum effect” I’ve noticed… is that adding the word “quantum” to the name of any common product (quantum razor, quantum hair gel, quantum nutraceuticals, etc) can (at minimum) triple its “value”.
ОтветитьI’ve never believed in quantum entanglement. And now it seems that everyone is putting the word “quantum” in every item. It’s all BS.
ОтветитьI am for and against quantum computing at the same time.
Ответить
