I have tried doing unit studies and its hard for me to follow through. I do need a bit of structure.

We are going to use the US Government unit along with our main unit from Gather Round.

I've been wanting to try out gather round homeschool too but haven't because of the price and then having to print it all. But I saw the government unit too and I'm planning to get that one to get my feet wet and see how it goes.

Would love to see how you do your science/history units! We love doing our own thing and pulling from a lot of different sources. I'm always interested in how others pull things together. :)

What grades did you use bfb for?

I see that a lot of people use Apologia, but for some reason it intimidates me. I think it’s too “textbook” for my style, but my kids are still young; so I need something that will keep their interest and that they can easily understand. Maybe when they’ll older I’ll give it a try.

We just got done doing the Civil war back in the fall, now we’re doing... civil rights... ironically. This too was not planned.

Looking into BF, we tried Gather Round, loved Oceans but its not a complete curricula IMO, and its seems a lot of just copy and paste

Sonlight has some good book lists for time periods too. We used Astronomy last year. I didn't get the notebooking journal and wish I had.

We have been doing gather round for two units and the earth science sample week so like 11 weeks and it's been a GAME CHANGER!!! I was only going to do one unit to change up our routine and we got hooked. So beautiful, so we'll done, my son is so excited to learn and retains way more then he did before. It's helped our relationship too since we are learning together. I have a 2 year old and a 9 month old so the no prep has been amazing 😍 hope it blessed you like it has us!

Sonlight has a free Elections unit and Bookshark has a free Constitution unit study and intoxicatedOnLife has a free presidents unit study! No need to purchase anything :) Sonlight is the largest to print but you can use it digitally too.

We bought a scratch off map on amazon, like a lotto ticket. It was a fun way to see/feel what country we were talking about.

I found you through your review of The Playful Pioneers. I'm curious if you ended up doing any of the other years or if you found it lacking. I have experience with Tapestry of Grace and A Gentle Feast, both of which felt a little overwhelming to me. Peaceful Press seems simpler. I have a current first grader, so I'm looking ahead to next year. Currently doing A Gentle Feast but I feel like there's just too much to cover.
