What is Gastroenterology?

I'm 14, and gastroenterology really interests me.

The only thing most GI doctors do is stick a tube in your bum. The ones I've known anyway.They never spoke on diet, nor medicine, but this was my experience. Seems they do very little, except for tube sticking. They seem to just love that. Unless I absolutely have to I won't go back to one of these doctors. I actually learned more about it from a book written by an IBS patient.
