The Balkans are the most mordor-like place in the world period. However it is as peacefull as Heaven. To me the most awesome place to live, if you ignore all the political corruption, very low paychecks and idiots that want to stab you for 4 dollars..

Well perhaps you should know that the balkans are made of 11 countries exluding turkey and italy which have only provinces and not only 4.Believe me im a balkan and i can say that you only mentioned 1/4 or less of the balkans history and territory.:)

Although we don't need movie references to enjoy these beautiful landscapes, LOTR is more than good comparison.But list of similarities doesn't end there. The word Balkan is of Turkic origin, it means "mountain chain" or as a compound word honey (Bal) & blood (Kan) - the land of sweet Hobbit-like people with courageous fighting hearts.You wont believe it but ancient name of the Balkan was - HELM. Also there was an ancient king that ruled these lands, and his name was Agron. Pretty close right?
