Dungeons and Dragons, explained

Me and my college friends play DnD sometimes and our DM is our professor.

As much as I love them, the only thing I hate is, that... they don't take roleplaying seriously, most of them keep laughing at every minutes, making it distracted and "non-sensical"

And yeah, I get it it supposed to be fantastical and no-nonsense, but a little seriousness and roleplaying their characters would be nice though

I write buyers personas for a living I can do do this.

I ran a D&D game every Saturday at a nursing home until the pandemic started. The residents had never heard of it until I introduced them to it. After a few weeks, I heard from some of the nurses that the residents were describing how THEY (not their characters) fought and defeated a bunch of goblins. That made my day.
At one of the early sessions, one of the players, a mid-seventies woman in a wheelchair, who played a barbarian (named Conan, of course), decided to open a door in a dungeon by bashing it in with her sword. She rolled a natural 20 and I described how the door vaporized into a million fragments. I then told her that if she had checked, she would have found the door to be unlocked. She said, "What would be the fun in that?"

For 25 years of my life i had no friends to play dnd with.

Now i got married and have made two obligated participants for life 😂😂😂

As an adult now, I find it impossible to enjoy this kind of game but I understand its appeal. I remember when I was a kid, my uncle usually told me fantasy stories and I kept asking him what happened next. Then he came up with an answer. No dice rolled though. But I guess it's basically the same thing like D&D when most of the game is basically in our imagination.
