My theory is that Scranton was sent to the same pocket dimension that 106 uses. Maybe he found a way to use the pocket dimension to corrode things and that’s how 106 can corrode and move through things.

I know that many people like the story of the origin of Corporal Lawrence, but personally I like this story about the origin of 106 more, perhaps because they have given it more continuity over the years and that they also knew how to relate it to other SCPs, In my opinion, that gives it a certain touch that makes it look more... I don't know, I'm between consistent or accurate, because I really think it fits and it's tragic enough to be the origin story of 106, plus it explains some of Its powers.

To me this is the true origin of the old man because when Dr. Scranton was so alone in the dark world for so long he imagined himself as the WW1 soldier in the trench, it reminded me of the original Twilight Zone TV show where in season one episode one Where is Everybody? It's basically a story about how isolation can cause delusions and/or a reality in your own head. To Dr. Bob I also really enjoy the flash transformation between Dr. Scranton/WW1 solider to the old man and back. Isolation can be scary, especially in The Twilight Zone.

This tale is Not canon, the story with Scranton is SCP-3001, and the "old man" is SCP-106. Only take the scp-wiki-wikidot content as 'canon', where currently there is no connection between the two SCPs, maybe Dr. Bob should take a refresher course on the correct procedures for Foundation material.
