What you just said could be Very dangerous and not safe for an older person with brittle bones! I’m 78, have had 3 broken bones. My therapist said to Never do stand up exercises without something close to grab. They said to start by holding onto something and gradually let go, but to stay very close to something to grab if necessary. What you are describing is for someone a lot younger or someone that may be older, but in excellent physical condition that probably wouldn’t have balance problems

stretching, ground work, getting up from the ground without putting your hands down. Yoga, practice stretching and opening the hips. Strengthening the balance muscles reduces falls. Think about the asian squat/flat footed squat, widen stance, tai chi with a wide stance, or warrior pose these help when done regularly.

OK so what is best is also all but impossible if not fully impossible for most people, especially those who have already had falls..........yes, interesting, but of only anecdotal help in the final analysis.........I;ll stick with safer exercises..........at least those will give a better chance to recover from falls which based on this information seem inevitable for all but the most extraordinarily healthy seniors

But there should be somewhere to hold if you lose your balance surely? How do you start from holding something to balancing? Eg. I can only do standing on one foot and then the other when there is a hold to confirm my stability first.
