[Eng Sub] Romance of the Three Kingdoms EP.01 Oath of the Peach Garden

For anyone unfamiliar with video adaptations of ROTK and therefore uncertain which version this is, it's CCTV's Romance of the Three Kingdoms (1994) which while not my personal fave is solid enough to take the Pepsi Challenge w/other iterations, all of which are well-written, acted & directed w/high production values throughout...

...except for most of the personal duels which are intentionally funky to save money on training or to represent a very specific style of traditional combat as romanticized in the ROTK novel and other sources.

EDIT: One area in which this particular TV version of ROTK shines is its portrayal of famous figures more failry including Zhang Fei, who is presented here as intelligent and gregarious

Bonus level unlocked if your introduction to ROTK, a classic of Chinese literature, was through NES (or PC/other game console) version(s) of Koei's eponymous historical gaming simulation.

The novel is well worth studying (I like the Robert Moss unabridged translation a lot), and in most East Asian nations is considered required reading, spawning a popular culture of tv series, movies, video games, trading cards, game shows and more. Its mass popularity is remarkable and speaks to the widely-held belief that ROTK contains valuable lessons on every aspect of the human experience and is of value to all members of society. Having read several versions of ROTK along w/a wealth of supplemental material, which is extensive, agree with the concensus that it has real value both as entertainment and as a study of salinet human behavioral dynamics across multiple contexts. For people familiar with the video games, films and TV series, a study of the novel and various supplemental documents adds a lot of detail, fleshes-out characters, shows otherwise hidden relationships and ultimately adds significantly to one's mental representation of life in 2nd-century China during the dueling states period.

This is still the best version. The characters are so authentic.
