A few years ago I worked at a toy store where one day a bat flew into the back room and landed in my coworkers hair and flew up to the ceiling, I ended up catching it with a butterfly net while on a ladder and then I set it free outside.

"The Birds"--there was no CGI in 1963. It was all real birds. As for being realistic--it was fantasy, not pretending to be real.

I remember being like 15 at my friends farm and the bats swooping down to get the bugs and trying to catch one with a fishing net, just dumb teenager stuff but we so badly wanted to hold one and pet it. Glad we didn't traumatize a poor little bat cause they can be so cute.

The guy who got kicked square in the skull's probably dead ._. I've been horseriding a decent bit while a teen, and once at the stable, one criminally unsurpervised child was pestering the horses, and insanely lucky for said kid and their mother, it was one of the mildest horses there that put its hoof down and sent the kid flying. The kid was okay, spooked as heck, but physically not harmed.

Mother was very justified terrified but hopefully also learned her goddamned lesson.

Horses are integral in many places still, they're generally pretty chill but they are NOT toys.

The Birds was based on true event. On August 18, 1961, thousands of sooty shearwaters attacked Capitola, California, a seaside town near Monterey Bay. The birds crashed into homes, cars, and people, and some were bitten. Eyewitness Edna Messini described the scene as "hundreds of birds — all with the cry of a baby"
