Thanks for the video. What i noticed about your first game and also Guild Architect is that they both dont use color theory. Basically the colors of grass and trees and everything is too saturated, contrast doesn't feel right and it doesn't feel like nice art because the colors are not complementary. Notice how Islanders or Bridges and Docks can look nice with good usage of color theory even with simple grapics. I think this is fixable without a big effort and will make your projects a lot more appealing. I know maybe you are still not at that phase of a project but it should be something to look at. Thomas Brush also uses this in his games.

And did you pitch your game to Hooded Horse? We're very happy with them and they support smaller, deep projects as well.
Still: You really should get a proper artist. Your new game still looks like its made from marketplace assets.

ОтветитьThe one thing I would say, is that you guys need an artist style. Whether it is animation based, or modeling, or texturing. Without a 'look' its hard to not get seen as generic, and very few people open a book with a generic cover to see what's inside.

ОтветитьAvoiding publishers is something I've heard on other gamedev channels. If you plan on having successful release without a publisher make sure that you have inhouse expert marketing or funds to buy one. I keep seeing good games that sell very few copies. I wish you all the best.
