Sony PVM 8041Q Repair: From Black & White to Color!!

My PVM 14L3 turns black and white with composite at 60 hz but not 50 hz. Does not happen with rgb. Is there something wrong or is it normal?

does this also work for the 8044q?

Great video, i have a Sony Pvm 1442Q ...tried to plug my snes mini over with a chinese mini hdmi to the Video In but i got black and white colors...what can i do?

I have a pvm 9040 with the same problem, do you know if the board and problem area would be in the same place? I'm new to this kind of stuff and really dont want to mess up my tv lol

Do you mind sharing which capacitors usually go bad in the power supply board? I have this monitor and I'm having issues (and because of the nature of the issue, got told it's very likely a bad cap in that board).

Hi, I have a Sony 2054 QM PVM that only has color when connecting an NTSC console with composite. If I connect a PAL console, the image is black and white. What could be the problem and could someone, with a little soldering skills and a heat gun, fix it?

I've got the same monitor with balck and white issue only on composite video. RGB is working with no issues. Do you have any ideia why that's happening? Thanks a lot for all your videos =)

Got my 8041Q working again! Thank you! Only problem is that there’s some discoloration in the top right corner. Any suggestions for a course of action?

Reflowed with my hot air station the entire B board : worked !

I have a PVM-8040 that will only display in monochrome. I know it is a slightly different problem (intermittent color loss in this video's example vs. permanent in my case), but will this re-soldering process work to restore color on any PVM with color problems?

Beautiful little monitor, getting hard to find these days. Sure has that wonderful retro look, love to find one and set it up for a gaming screen.

I had PVM-9041QM, and exactly the same problem with it, randomly lose color. I took it to repair, after which I sold it, and then I bought B&O MX7000 CRT TV.

I use hairdryer to blow on the front right hand side of the PVM for 2 minutes :D I know I know ... but hey , it works

is it still working after reflowing? I have a 8042q on the way that only shows black and white hoping i can fix it up

hi there, just wondered, is it OK to flip a BVM PVM or XM29 to be standing up tall for a vertical shmup

I don’t understand how it can only have 250 lines of resolution or how that can be “almost Hi-Def.” Standard-Def is 480-525 interlaced lines. Hi-Def is 720-1080 lines. Enhanced-Def is anything in between (480p, 600p, etc).

If this tube doesn’t even have 480 lines then even 240p should suffer. Since 240p is kind of a 480i hack I don’t see how this could be a native 240p display which downsamples 480i or something weird like that.

I have a little 8045q that I pack around due to its portability. The picture is fantastic due to its 450 tvl, a nice step up from the 250 tvl on this monitor. Its just enough to where you can barely see the scanline effect if your leaning in and peeping.
