I somehow got this scenario on my very first run (i never actually rad/listen to dialogues) and never made it again.
Also, in the very first version there was a bug during the "council" and the game just froze there

The elves and imperials were wise to try to execute Dovahkiin early in the game. His appearance in Skyrim is the awakening of dragons. And dragons are the top of the food chain in Nature. Not humanoid creatures. Let me remind you. Dragons made people slaves and undead, locked them in tombs. Skyrim for dragons. But the elves chose not to interfere in this. That's all.

NEVER play Skyrim without "The Paarthurnax Dilemma" by Arthmoor. In a freeform game of choices that absolutely railroads you into doing the wrong thing, it is sorely needed. YOU are the Dragonborn and ipso facto leader of The Blades, not Delphine and Esbern!

So you get a CHOICE to kill Paathrunax, or to tell Delphine and Esbern to FECK ARF! and stick their organisation up their arse.

4th option: Just pick a side and be done with the civil war, so you don't have to sit with this idiots, and ask Parthunaax for Odahviing shout because nobody likes Espen and Delfin

I always choose the imperials because while I feel sympathy for the nords and hate the Thalmor… I hate Ulfric so much more. And I refuse to kill Parthunaax

I tried to use the trade of Markarth for Riften to get Maven in jail. However, after reclaiming Riften in the name of the Stormcloaks, she will return to walking the streets of the city.

How is this a third option?

Or you can wipe out one side, get rid of Alduin, then wipe out the other. :D

I already decided what I'll do. I won't give anybody the crown and I'll kill Ulfric and Tullius after dealing with Alduin.

Fun fact : there is a mod where you can choose to make all soldiers unite against the aldmeri dominion

But i personally always choose the legion because the stormcloaks are proven racists

even after all these years, having bought the Skyrim collector's edition with the Alduin dragon statue in the big box with the art book for PS3 on launch day, then a couple more times on Steam years later for various re-releases, I realize I haven't actually ever finished the civil war. I don't know if I was just a lazy player or if that's just how bad the story of the civil war was that I never actually played through it despite owning the game in multiple forms for over 13 years...12 years, not sure of the math exactly right now
