Great comparison! If I understand correctly that I can run 1x 16 Ohm and 1x 8 Ohm Cab with the TAE? Only requirement it has to be at least 4 Ohm total load?

Hello! Great video series. I have a question, maybe you could help. I need to reamp (different amp) my guitar tracks (yes, I know you are not a fan of reamping!! :)). I live in a flat (so, using an amp on full volume, with a real cab is not an option). I use a Two Notes Torpedo Reload to attenuate and reamp my tracks. Still, I feel like the reamped tracks sound flat, dull, not punchy and different from the real amp connected to a real cab. My question is: Which attenuator/load box/reactive load box has the closest result to a real amp, full volume with a real cabinet? Fryette? RedSeven? UAD Ox Box? Other? Hello, dear friend, I have a question, maybe you can help me. I haven't been able to decide for a long time which is better for me whether to buy the waza amp or the ox box for home recordings. I have an old Marshall amp so that on the one hand the waza can fit but on the other hand the aux box also looks cool. I am no longer appearing today, if you could recommend me, what do you think, thanks

Well shoot. Iron man or TAE🤦‍♂️. Majority Live player here with a Two Rock CRS. I mostly want attenuation, but all that extra stuff sounds cool, so ig the question is how much better is the Iron man’s attenuation?

I tried a lot them in my studio, including the here not reviewed but elsewhere hyped Fryette PS. The best for me is the Suhr Reactive Load for reamping and for attenuation the KOCH Loadboxes. The latter don‘t bring you down to what people call bedroom level. But if you want to play at home at a decent 80db level instead going 100 db or more, this box is the box to go. A lot of thought has gone into these and they would deserve more discussion and consideration.

The boss is probabli faster than the mic, because the speed of sound betwin the speaker and the mic is slower than the speed of electricity

Hi. Thx for your detailed review. It's really a wonderful job. I have a question: if I use UA OX with my combo mesa boogie. Do I need any extra poweramp (device or software) for direct studio recordings. As long as I know OX does not have a poweramp simulator. But I'm not sure that the signal from the speaker jack directly connected to the OX is the poweamp'd sound out from my combo or just the preamp'd signal?

What would be you first choice if one was looking for the best possible way to play non-master volume amps (18-25 W) both live, at home, attenuated through the actual cab, as well as through headphones (for practice, not recording). What combination of gadgets would give me these options while sounding best?

Suhr REACT IR or. TORPEDO Captor & Torpedo CAB M or Torpedo Captor X or ST ROCKS IR ? give me your ranking 1-4 I don't need attenuation its just a bonus and mainly studio. Why does no one really talk about the ST ROCKS react IR????????

Hey, please help me with one issue. I am searching for a loadbox to use my Orange dark terror with my audiointerface and iMac daw to record and play music. I have been offered toneking ironman mini 2. Is it usable for loadbox without a need to connect speaker also?

This is such an excellent comparison -- especially since I bought the OX for recording.

Really appreciate you going into load box rabbit hole hell for us. I made it through two coffee's and went for a third. I'm leaning towards the Boss, but totally agree with the TAE "digital bitch session." It should have at least one digital out, you are on point with never wanting to run parallel source inputs (especially USB, especially on Windows) while running a recording interface (I'm primarily using an Apollo X4 TB3). The number of analog outs, effects loop (they are Boss after all) on the TAE is clearly overcompensating for the lack of digital. Shoving and keeping you in the analog guitar tone zone for sure...which can be all good, arguably better or worse, unless you are captain ADAT 011010011. With an ADAT IO expander hooked up to the Apollo, I do have a whole bunch of analog to digital to play with. I'm still on the fence, but I'll be falling off it soon one way or the other. Especially after this helpful review. Thanks!

I have the Torpedo Cab M+ and the preamp and power amp sims kind of suck, especially the preamp is really bad in my opinion. I only use the cab/mic sims which are excellent, the room effect is OK.

I think I figured out the latency conundrum. The sound coming out of the speaker travels at the speed of sound, i.e. it takes some amount of time for it to reach the mic. This amount of time is probably the same as the latency inside the WAZA, hence why they match. Theoretically, IF the speed of sound were infinity fast THEN you would see the WAZA signal coming in after the mic signal.

One thing the FX return on the TAE can be used for is to run one of the outputs (with cab sim off) of a non powered Kemper through a real cab

The bottom line is what is the least expensive, best (transparent) sounding REACTIVE load device? I intend to use it for a line out to effects... then into a separate power amp... not as an attenuator.

Loved this video. Very helpful and full of integrity. You don't come across many so unbiased gear channels. The idea of including the Tone King + the Torpedo Cab M was fantastic. I only wish you had included the Freyette PS2 since it brings an effects loop as well. Would have loved to hear your opinion on it. Anyway, great work.

The mic has a bit of latency cause speed of sound, and 10cm of travel between cone and mic.

I stick with my Rivera Rockcrusher Recording, and reamp to another amp, or record direct. Also it's silent.

Good work Henning. This made my mind up. I’d be interested in how it integrates with the boss es-8.
I think for me the drawback is that whilst I think you may be able to call up the IR’s via midi you can’t hear the IR’s via the cabinet only digitally and out say to powered speakers or a daw? Is that correct?

I use a second amp off of my es-8 as a stereo pair, widens sound and allows ping pong effects. I’d really like to know what the TAE in circuit does to that output 2 on the es-8. My guess that amp 1 (being dimed) will still push amp2 on boss es-8. Sadly therefore, near the beta level of software interface, no Bluetooth and the above probably means I’ll have to opt out of this one (for now).

Most useful review/comparison on this subject! Now I wish I could have both TAE and Ox... I do think, though, it’s good that UA uses TRS only connection for Ox’s line out. I wish industry would standardize balanced connector type with respect to application/level, i.e. TRS = line level, XLR = mic level. Yes you can pad down a line level input on mixer channel, but the real challenge is phantom power which usually only supplies to XLR (not TRS). A number of guitar equipment with line level output don’t work well when there’s phantom power from the mixer on XLR (yes, Helix, that’s you).

I have both. The OX is great simulator, I think better than IR, the attenuation is good. the quality of the effects inside the Ox is amazing but it's only for studio use... (I wish UA will let the signal flow to the speaker). I have to say that none took my amps very well. they don't really represent the amp. especially higher gain. this is all to my experience. if you would ask my which one to buy, get the boss, its the best all around.

Do you prefer the two tone studio to the Avalon u5 and if so what is the differance othere that the IR selections?

I have a 65 Princeton Reverb reissue (which I love) . . . however I can only put the Volume on 2 in my NYC apartment. Is there a device that "Will not Damage my Amp" - and allow me to put the volume on 3.5 or 4? - I'm looking at the Two Notes Captor X and the Fryette Power Station PS-2 . . .
