I've been using my ancient 2011 15" MBP up until recently. There were a few upgrades like 16gb RAM and SSD (the SSD gave it a second life) that kept it going for so long. The wi-fi card also died, so I had to get a USB wi-fi adapter or just use ethernet haha. So going to the 14" M1 pro base model is a huge jump for me. I was waiting until the M3 MBPs came out, but after seeing all the lukewarm reviews, I decided to pick up an older M1 MBP for a big discount. Glad to hear that the base model is still powerful enough to handle 4K video editing. Ideally I'd like to keep this for another 5-10 years before the next upgrade.

My review after purchasing this laptop or more like comparison you can say: I used hp gaming laptop which cost around 70k after discount and the m1 pro cost 75k more for me (after gst stuff) now I will take about sound (and yes this device is faster, display is awesome better than an OLED TV) where it impresses me, I'm not an audiophile but a casual listener i watch movies, anime, music and i use sondmagic e11c (earphone) now coming to my main point while i was stream anime/movies on windows then watch on macbook it feelt like there was extra audio present while using the MacBook i guess its because of inbilt DAC present on latest macbooks.

I have a 14" MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it. The performance is astonishing for a 3.5 pound laptop and it is super quiet. I got the base model with 16GB memory and 512GB storage as well as 8 core/14 core M1 Pro.

I just picked up the M1 Max/64GB/2TB and have to say I am a bit surprised at the thermals. It has a lot of power but anything you do to tap into that power sends the thermals skyward quick.

I'm getting ready for graduate school, and Apple's refurbished 14" M1 Pro seems like the wisest investment:
-M1 MacBook air w/ 16gb RAM & 512gb SSD $1,259 (w/ student discount)
-M2 MacBook air w/ 16gb RAM & 512gb SSD $1,479 (w/ student discount)
-14" MacBook Pro w/ 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD $1,539 (refurbished)
With the last, you get a much better display, better speakers, larger keyboard, more ports, and much more powerful graphics processing. Seeing that my current daily driver is a 2012 MBP (and I intend to keep my next for many years) The 14" seems like a no brainer... Now to save up the cash...

I am considering the M1 Mac Book pro , not because I need it for intensive tasks , but because I want a MacBook with an ProMotion display and this one also happens to be mini-LED. Incidentally, I bought an 11 inch iPad Pro 2 yrs ago that has ProMotion , but I am kind of sore that mini-LED was not available in that size. I am also considering the M1 MacBook Air which is sweet and great bang for buck and I would get that , but the lack of ProMotion on that is kind of holding me back. I need to check out the MBP in the flesh today but I know it will be bigger and heavier which is also kind of likely to hold me back.

I have one of these. It's much more computer than I need, but it was a present to myself. And it will last me for many years.

You mention that for price reasons it might not be the best choice for everyone. Here in the UK (and in Europe generally) the cost argument is tighter. The 14" MBP is £1900 - it's unusual for Apple to price an item at less than £1=$1, but they did for this. An M2 MBAir starts at £1249 for the 8GPU/8Gb/256Gb model so if you spec it up (16Gb/512Gb) it's £1649 - only £250 less than the 14" MBP, and the MBA still wouldn't have the screen or the ports. If you start with the 10GPU/512Gb MBA, that's £1549 base price, or £1749 with 16Gb memory - only £150 less than the MBP, and once again missing the ports & screen. So a tougher decision on this side of the pond....

I am definitely not a power user, but in my country the M2 Air 8gb/512gb and M1 Pro 14 16gb/512gb have 200 Euros difference. I feel the M2 Air is so ridiculously overpriced here that it makes sense to me just spending like 10% more to get a more "pro" and futureproof machine.

In March 2023, I’m looking to upgrade from a base 2017 intel MBP for Premiere Pro editing & this MacBook keeps getting recommended. It’s about £1300 resale in the UK but something like the M2 13” MBP is only £850. I know the 14” is crazy powerful but do I really need it for an extra £500/600$?? (I will be using it to edit 1080p videos for the next 2years minimum)

I just picked up an M1 MBP (16GB RAM/500GB SSD) and it's been a great experience. Greater for me as I'm coming from a 2015 MacBook Air (4GB RAM/128GB SSD) so massive upgrade to say the least. Huge fan of the instantaneous response times. Definitely see this lasting years past a decade which Macs are notorious for.

Hi there, I recently bought a 14" M1 Pro Macbook pro with Mac OS Ventura pre installed along with 4tb internal ssd. I like it so far, but here are some of the things I have noticed and do not like it about it. First, the battery drains quick. and the second issue I have is whenever I want to to use an external hard drive and formatted in exfat or in ms-dos(fat) the macbook wants to run slow. and it's not with one particular external hard drive, it's with any other external hard drive formatted in exfat or ms-dos (fat). But if the external hard drive was formatted in APFS format then ist runs smoothly and quick. why is that? why in exfat or in ms-dos(fat) it runs slow?

You can connect THREE displays to the M1 Pro with the dock?
Is this 100% confirmed?
Three displays would be the only reason why I would go for the M1 MAX and I would safe a lot of money if this was true

Hi Jimmy, I’ve also had my M1 Pro/14” MBP for about a year now.

I’ve never had an issue with the edge getting scratched because while I do wear accessories on my wrists, I think I got used to “picking up” my wrists so that they’re not touching. I typically still charge using the MagSafe cable (the braided white cable is just so good) but I have charged using a standard USB-C cable with an Anker charge block (65w).

My only gripe is that the HDMI port seems flimsy. I’ve never moved my laptop around when using cables but for some reason, the HDMI cable is clearly “moving” when connected (it’s not even when inserted). It still works but I don’t like the unevenness. You can “jiggle” it to make it even but I shouldn’t have to.

I'm thinking about getting a MacBook 14 Pro (if there's a 2023 or 2024 version) for college when I go ~1 year from now for (most likely) CS, been a Windows user my whole life but my sister switched to the 16 Pro and has had an amazing experience (does a lot of photoshop, editing, coding etc.) So it should be a decent option despite Windows typically being a bit better for CS & engineering related needs.
