Nice content David, but you're definitely fanboying over the Leica. Modern Leica digitals are quite poor cameras for what you're paying for. I own an M2 and sold my M11. As a matter of fact, the M11 oversaturated images far more than my Fuji cameras. They're also not as well built as something like my X-pro3 that's made of titanium. I think the name of Leica carries the brand more than its products these days. Unfortunately, the hype hasn't forced Leica to adapt in years and they've just about fallen behind Fuji cameras that cost a fraction of the price.

This camera costs with a
35mm 1.4 lens around US$ 15400.
So be careful who tells you something.
And most importantly, what!

Nice video, but you got one thing wrong!

Zone focusing is not what you described. Zone focusing means you set you focus to a certain distance and based on your apperture you can estimate how much depth of field you have (that's inscribed in the lens!). You can then estimate if your subject is in focus or not by guessing how far away from them you are. And this can be done on ANY camera with manual focus.

What you described is the standard method people use for focusing with a rangefinder, that is possible because of how these lenses are built and you can very quickly set it to a focus distance without thinking much.

I don’t understand how built in storage is better than a dual card slot? You could just keep a second sd in at all times for the same effect with the benefit of not being limited to only 64 gigs which at full resolution raw files really isn’t that much. Pixel binning is pretty cool though, too bad you didn’t really showcase how it is a benefit with no examples of any low light photos 😅

About those missed focus shots...

You have to keep in mind that the rangefinder is just a proxy for the actual image impinging on the sensor. There are two problems here. First, just generically expect meh accuracy with lens longer than 50mm or so. The RF baseline just isn't long enough to provide high enough precision.

Second, unit to unit manufacturing slop (for both camera and lens) will affect focusing accuracy. Yes, even with Leica.

This will manifest especially with fast lenses used up close. Shoot a ruler lengthwise and close up, with your fast lens and the aperture wide open. It's rare with a new camera and lens, but don't be particularly surprised if the mm mark you focused on isn't quite what's actually in focus on the recorded image.

What's worse: if you use the camera with any regularity, expect having to send the camera back to Leica for RF calibration periodically. The RF will fall out of calibration over time. By the way, the rangefinder for the Pixii is user serviceable; Leica's isn't.

RF focusing is retro-cool, popular with the kool kids and all that. Just know also that fundamentally it's also a form over function thing; it's done for sake of style and cool. When focusing accuracy really matters for a shot, use the live view on the LCD panel.

I think if I could only have one camera, it would be a Leica. I learned on a Konica that had a similar build. Using the Q2 now, and love the build and aesthetic. Professionally, I use Canon EOS for video and photo. And Leicas can’t match all their performance features. But I’m at a stage in my career and life that I want to be more intentional and appreciative of what I’m doing in the moment. So…phone for quick things, and a Leica for the experience.

Almost 9K for the body of a full frame camera where you will miss a lot of shots at the beginning. Sounds great! I'll take 5 of them! 😂

But seriously, I don't get why these prices are still justified when there is a medium format 102 MP camera on the market with slightly less amazing build quality but on the other hand you have auto focus and files that blow away full frame sensors. And you can get it with a prime lens for less than the Leica body.

I see a camera as a tool to express your creativity. But if that tool fails you because you missed focus it misses the entire point for me. But hey, it has... "charm". 👌🏻

8,995 dollars for the body. Leica employees work on sales commission. I love Leica, but its a business, and business involves margin, and margin can be vastly increased by brand heritage and this is especially the case for luxury items. I do expect a Leica to last a lifetime, but I'm somewhat sickened by this. Brands are inexplicably linked to their markets, and most wish to stay there as a means to create a niche community for themselves which separates them- this is why (in my opinion) Fuji will never, never make a full frame camera. They are too invested in their market and far too reliant on the traits which must be bought into in order to gain loyal customers. For Leica, one of those traits is pricing, plain and simple. The other, however, is the shooter experience. Leica does this incredibly well with a minimalist approach and a solid shooting experience. I've heard this said before and it's true: Leica cameras feel like a gun, a tool. There's nothing gimmicky or plastic about them in feel. Still, its not worth 8,995 dollars, and I would love for someone to actually come along and prove me wrong about that, because I just don't believe it. They are banking on the 'customer experience' model. It is the Leica selling point, and its absolutely pretentious
