I think the head of the "doll" is the head of the statue, the same from DS1 painted world of ariamis.

Air-Ian-Dell is how I would say it. I guess if even the game is inconsistent in the pronunciation, then there's no point in trying to figure out the right way to say it.

Perhaps the seemingly meditating mannequin represents some aspect of serpents? I've been carrying around the suspicion that there is a connection between the Dark Soul of Man, the Dragons and the Serpents. Why did people try to become dragons back in Archdragon Peak? Why are the primordial serpents so keen to prolong/end the age of fire? It seems like there must be some connection to me.

Would you consider a lore video that looks at PvP, jolly cooperation and the roles of the Chosen Undeads/Cursed Undeads/Unkindled Ones and how this all fits into the canon? It was suggested in your Velka lore video that our presence in DS1 could be Velka punishing the gods for their sins. Maybe this bears further exploration/speculation? Great videos BTW.

I believe that Priscilla was banished by Frieda and when she was outside of the painting, was devoured by Aldrich. Then after that, he went after Gywndolin. Only because the old gods were afraid of Priscilla's power. Aldrich transposed prissilas soul into the life hunt sycthe. Killed Gywndolin and then later after X amount of years, we kill Aldritch. i believe that Ariendel was put in front of priccilas statue to proclaim kingship over the old painted world. After all, history is change. change is life. PWOA is now PWO- ariendal. If history doesn't change, its dead.

Something that really tickles me is the link between the painting corvians, the outside corvians, and the DS1 crow demons.
Clearly those guys do not belong to the same race.

A quickly crafted theory could go that crow demons were followers of velka and inside guards of the original (Ariamis) painting, which was primarily as a refuge for Priscilla, but ended up attracting other forlorns.
The new crows inside the painting, could actually be new natives of the painting, perhaps descending from the original crows, perhaps not.
But then what are the outside-world corvians ?
They sure are related to the painting as they tell tales of it.
But there is almost none of them on the inside, the first of them seem to have just stumble here and is able to speak human langage. Also physically, they ressemble humans much more than they ressemble crows...
My guess could be that those used to be humans, turning bird-like either on their way to the painting, of inside of it.

There's no clue about who Ariamis is, as far as I know, but I'm going to assume he is the original painter so obviously an outsider to the painting and most likely a servant to the gods, or maybe even a god himself.

The painting seems to follow it's own cycles and eventually started rotting, intresting to note how the cold should normally combat rotting.
In any case, eventually came Ariandel, I don't know what he is, but he's black feathers seem to link him to the corvians, probably indicating that he is a native to the painting.
He holds the power of the fire and to burn the painting, and it seems the more rotted the painting becomes the more urgent becomes the fire, which he can only sooth with his blood.
The painting is his, so I'd assume he painted it himself with his blood. And he along with sister Friede do not want to let go of it.

But who then is that kid ? Obviously he seems to be the next paintor, and needs blood for his painting, but he seems to need another pigment, the dark essence of man...what does has dto do with any of the rest ?

The statue reminds me of Priscilla and I think the person that elfreida is actually imitating her because she was a figure who tried to protect the painting from the outside world

I felt bad for Father Ariandel. He is a glorified case of the effects of being taken advantage of by someone who deceives another into gaining their trust, befriending them, and ultimately forcing them into blind devotion.

As for Sister Friede...
One word: BITCH.

Hi Dave, great video again 🤘🏻 I have a question regarding a point you made. Referring to the Untended Graves, you said you believe that it's possible that they are in the future and the main game takes place in the last. Have you considered that the Untended Graves is instead the past?

I believe so, mainly because it refers to Champion Gundyr as having woken to late. Also he is referred to as Champion instead of Iudex. To me, that says that this was a time when the flame guttered out almost completely and the bell did not toll in time. Later the flame reignited itself (referencing DS2 here) and the Age of Fire continued until the present when the game begins.

This is purely my own speculation but seems to make some sense.

I often stared into them paintings surrounding Friede. They're either paintings of her, painted by the painter enslaved. Or they were paintings of the woman who the Statue was originally, confiscated.

Either way the paintings are scarred and some of them look burnt, some the face are kinda warped. From a certain perspective it looks like a rotten face, almost like a skull.

Can we talk about the imagery of the boss fight? More specifically, as phase 1 and 2 ends. Spoilers, obviously.

At the end of phase 1 Friede lays in her own pool of blood, which slowly runs towards Ariandel. The circle it leaves, with the drips moving towards Ariandel, it obtains the shape of the dark sign or the dark sun that appears at the end of the game.

At the end of phase 2, when Ariandel dies, he clutches his cauldron and 'smashes' it into himself. This looks A LOT like in Dark Souls when you used a humanity; You 'pushed' it into your chest. Maybe the cauldron is the Painted world's version of the Lord Vessel?

I think that Sister Friede may tried to usurp the fire back when she was the leader of Sable church, but failed and reduced to ashes. After she was revived, she lost all hope and drawn to the painting.
Yuria said that there's a need for spouse for lord or taking others dark sign, maybe they discovered that after Elfriede's failure.
Btw I tried bringing Yuria's ashes to sister friede and vilheim hoping for a new dialogue, but she didn't have extra dialogue except no longer recognizing my character as lord of hollow.

Attention Weed Growers! Tap into a well known buyer of your products by making a gaming themed strain called "Ariandel" then every game rooms coffee table can have a tray full of roaches and ashes of Ariandel! It has to be more successful than Taco Bell's "Dark Souls Ceaseless Discharge" $5 buck menu items were.

Are you ever going to do a video on the Ringed City? I've always found these videos to be both informative (as I could never piece together all of this myself) and entertaining, what with the conviction with which you say your narration. I'd very much like to see you do The Ringed City, but if that's out of the question, could you point me in the direction of a video on the subject that you recommend?
