Ответить“Thomas County Law”
Thomas County law’s got a crooked tooth
Every traffic light is red when it tells the truth
The church bell isn’t kidding when it cries for you
Nobody looks away when the sun goes down
Thomas County Road takes you where it will
Someone’s singing on the far side of other hills
And there’s nowhere safe to bury all the time I’ve killed
Nobody looks away when the sun goes down
There’s a couple ways to cross Thomas County line
You can’t see beyond the trees
They’re too tall and wide
And I never seem to see around my brother’s wife
Nobody looks away when the sun goes down
There are castles for kings
There are birds without wings
I could whine about it all
But I won’t
Thomas County law’s got a crooked tooth
There ain’t a mother with a heart less than black and blue
When you hold ‘em to the light, you can see right through
Every dreamer falls asleep in their dancing shoes
I may say I don’t belong here, but I know I do
Nobody looks away when the sun goes down
Nobody looks away when the sun goes down
All of these people believe in this song deep down.
ОтветитьSomething I appreciate most about iron and wines songs, particularly the old ones, is how beautiful they age with time. I usually don’t like watching artists perform old songs especially if they are performed differently but when Sam performs his songs they may change but they become more beautiful. The songs are sung by someone who has been changed by life and years. The beauty of the song makes me cry to think of how I’ve changed since I listened to these songs and how appropriate Sams performance is at conveying how things change over time. It’s so rare that music moves me in this way.
ОтветитьGandalf rocking the bass
ОтветитьMost jarring ad interruptions in recorded history.

Amazing stuff!!
This just popped up in my feed. I listen to a lot of different kinds of music. I just loved it!
Thank you.
Iron & Wine has always been a soft place to fall back to, when the edges of the world are a little to sharp. In my case, anyway.
ОтветитьThe original version of Cinder & Smoke gets me every time, but this one is equally as good. A truly rare occurrence, and I could not be more pleased.
ОтветитьThis is a terrific collection... (Beth adds so much COLOR to this collaboration).
ОтветитьAlgo bueno en estos tiempos difíciles por la pandemia ..es que llegue a esta banda, me encanta .....viajó al fondo de mis sentimientos , los felicito ....saludos desde Chile

ОтветитьTrapeze Swinger too sad ;(
ОтветитьPlease, remember me happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin, the time when
We counted every black car passing
Your house beneath the hill
And up until someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention
[Verse 2]
But please, remember me fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then they went on to say
That the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti
Like "We'll meet again" and "Fuck the man"
And "Tell my mother not to worry"
And angels with their great handshakes
Were always done in such a hurry
[Verse 3]
And please, remember me that Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white
By midnight, we'd forgotten one another
And when the morning came I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world and then returned
And now you're lit up by the city
[Verse 4]
So please, remember me mistakenly In the window of the tallest tower
Calling passers-by but much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour
Gleam and resonate, just like the gates
Around the holy kingdom
With words like "Lost and found" and "Don't look down"
And "Someone save temptation"
[Verse 5]
And please, remember me as in the dream
We had as rug-burned babies
Among the fallen trees and fast asleep
Beside the lions and the ladies
That called you what you like and even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see a trapeze
Swinger high as any savior
[Verse 6]
But please, remember me, my misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain and chasing trains
The colored birds above their running
In circles around the well and where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter
So bright, on cinder gray, in spray paint
"Who the hell can see forever?"
[Verse 7]
And please, remember me seldomly In the car behind the carnival
My hand between your knees, you turned from me
And said, "The trapeze act was wonderful
But never meant to last", the clown that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs, the parking lot
Had an element of danger
[Verse 8]
So please, remember me finally
And all my uphill clawing
My dear, but if I make the pearly gates
I'll do my best to make a drawing
Of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl
An angel kissing on a sinner
A monkey and a man, a marching band
All around a frightened trapeze swinger
I hate Pitchfork I love Iron and Wine. You could easily win a bet with me if you bet I couldn't listen to The Trapeze Swinger without tearing up a bit.
Ответитьwish the camera work was less switch angles every two seconds. also super out of focus, and the blacks are terrible.
ОтветитьThat is wonderful music! You all should keep that band together, forever! 8 )
Ответитьcinder and smoke ta na versão mais absurdamente linda q eu já escutei, obrigadaa
ОтветитьI know others have already said this but it bears repeating. The performance of "Call Your Boys" is outstanding.
Ответитьhis music makes me feel extremly peaceful
Ответить2 years ago I was working at Blue Bottle, and Sam Beam & Jesca Hoop came in and after their coffee I asked if I was doing a good job playing it cool about the fact they were there. Sam laughed and we small talked for a minute and he asked my coworker and I if we wanted to be on the list for their show at the Great American in SF. So, so rad, and Sam is such a great guy!
ОтветитьHad the pleasure of meeting Sam Beam in Chicago. I worked at a design firm that was below a studio where he has recorded many songs.
I went outside for my usual cigarette and he was sitting on the bench and I sat next to him. It blew my mind because I was (and still am) such a huge fan of his music.
I did not however want to embarrass him or myself by coming off as star struck, so we said our hellos and a bit of small talk. I saw him a few days later and he shook my hand and asked how I was doing.
As an aspiring musician writing in a similar genre, I was thoroughly delighted in our paths crossing.
Part of me wishes I would have told him how much he inspires me, so until we meet again:
Sam,
Thank you for making such beautiful music. And thank you for being so kind.
Phil
One year anniversary tomorrow.
