Driving works fine if you can drive open country roads seeing a wide horizon.
Forty years ago i realized with wonder “there is no PTSD on the road”.
Been having daily anxiety attacks for over 10 years now. No treatment has been effectfull in helping
Outdoor activities in nature can help it be more bearable tho
Moving forward and “being active” will help temporarily, but will just end up being crutches and coping strategies. Chronic anxiety can’t be overcome doing this.
The key is to learn to accept and allow all your symptoms, even the most fucked up ones, and practicing responding as calmly as possible to them over and over until you gradually begin to desensitize your nervous system.
Once your nervous system desensitizes, your symptoms will all fade as a consequence.
That's why having some sort of Vision Impairment makes you at high risk for anxiety and more, some people lucky enough to not have any eye impairments.
ОтветитьThe Body Keeps The Score by Bessel van der Kolk M.D. provides powerful research on how movement and play are so helpful in healing trauma and backs up what Huberman is talking about here. Thanks for getting this out there!
ОтветитьThats not true (EMDR background story) if you ask german neurobiologist Prof. Dr. Dr. Gerhard Roth - but he says it works (just the background rumor is likely wrong)
ОтветитьThis worked! I was having a panic attack; I tried the lateral eye movements and getting on an elliptical. I feel sooooo much better. Thank you Dr. Huberman!
ОтветитьI tried EMDR, didn't really work for me. Maybe as a few traumas and Im not good at visualising
ОтветитьNo, it means you jump to many conclusions.
ОтветитьBut what about if running and walking in public causes social anxiety? 🤓
ОтветитьI'm curious as to how it works for unfortunately blind people and people who are paralysed for instance?
Ответитьthis is prolly why I feel most anxiety at my cashier job, where I’m standing in one place
Ответитьis this why hypnosis works?
ОтветитьWhen you're driving you should be doing lateral eye movements on a regular pattern. You need to be glancing from side to side looking for movements that indicate objects that may come into the path of your vehicle. Defensive driving technique (retired driving instructor)
ОтветитьSo... walk it off?
ОтветитьOmg this is so useful !
ОтветитьHa! I used to run "the dish" and the campus at Stanford in the 80s. In 2013 I stopped running. My mental health tanked. Just now getting better thanks to walking and yoga nidra and Huberman Lab.
ОтветитьActually, driving works amazing for me too.
ОтветитьFascinating!
ОтветитьI was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and I walk 2 hours early morning every day. Exercise brings me calm energy and good feelings. Also being outdoors getting fresh air around nature too
ОтветитьYou are the man! Thanks
ОтветитьI wonder if this is why people naturally look to the left or right of them when they tell lies.
ОтветитьMy mind blown 🤓💪👍
Ответитьso? what do i have to do when i feel anxious?
ОтветитьGIANT props for not putting some sappy "inspirational" music to this.
ОтветитьWhere can i find the full interview?
ОтветитьI am so gratful for this clip: I definitly understood what Pr. Huberman explained by different podcasts about fear and eyes movements. 🙏🙏🙏
ОтветитьI'm here from gym class
