"alternating is worth is when you can do it"
Honestly, when i started, i was singletapping everything (1-2* range). I don't know where i first learned about alternating, and what i have heard it at the time, but i have heard that alternating takes time to learn, so i decided to learn to alternate when i wasn't even fc'ing 2* maps at the time. So i started playing from the easiest maps to hardest, my alternation improved over time. I think alternating is a skill like singletapping is a skill, it's something you learn and improve upon. However, my alternating is not perfect, as i can't alternate properly when i have to click circles in quick succession, like bursts or streams. This means i need to gradually improve my finger control(and speed, my right hand is alternating faster but i can't actually use it to tap in osu, so i have to use my left hand)..

"look at every circle and confirm that my cursor is in that circle, then after you tap it you move to the next circle"
I didn't know at the time, but your advice subconsciously stuck with me, and when i am playing this way, my aim is so much better, despite using a very very cheap mouse. This also allowed me to read higher AR maps with a few objects at a time (I'm a 2* player at the time of this comment, so i can't handle many objects in quick succession, whether they be streams or not). Thank you, Azer, for giving this advice. One caveat of this method is that it strains your eyes more. Or maybe it's the way i am positioned, it's possible i was looking too close to the monitor, or bend my back too much, or both. This method is very effective, but i must find a way to reduce the strain from using this method. I may or may not have to take a few days break from osu, if it becomes worse. As you see, trial and error is my personal best way to learn these things

Here's the thing with the aim vs reading argument.

If say you focused on your ability to read maps at a level like GN's, your reading wouldn't physically matter because you don't possess the ability to aim in order to get your cursor to the circle for your tap to matter. Whereas people who come into the game and focus on aim, or they come from another game where aim is a very vital mechanic, take a competitive FPS. They have an ingrained reflex to hit a target correctly (within the parameters of a shooter). People can react to stimuli before they've even realized what they've seen, and can therefore hit a combo, jump, or target without really reading it or understanding what they're looking at. They see target, their brain says snap.

You could be the absolute best player there ever was at reading. But that doesn't matter if you don't physically possess the ability to get your cursor to your target. Same thing with tapping. You could single tap 957BPM triplets accurately with auto-pilot turned on, but you still can't aim at the target.

So despite all of these core fundamentals going hand in hand that make an ultimately well-rounded player. Aim is the most important. Because your reading or your tapping is nothing without aim accuracy.
