Verne’s market did not evolve . Everytime Verne tried to appeal to a National audience his home crowds shrunk . They wanted old school blue collar wrestling not pretty boy MTV Rock and Wrestling .

Gordon Solie did more to put wrestlers over than most promoters .

Voices matter . I thought Gene Okerlund , Gordon Solie and Bill Mercer were the most professional sounding “ radio men “ in the business .

The time we were in High School staying in the same hotel as the Wrestlers... We were making noise all night and guys were telling us to keep it down... Finally at about 2am, a boozed up Mean Gene came pounding on our door with just whitey tighties on... He gave us an ass riping but he was bricked up in those whitey tighties... He was bricked up to where he created that gap in your undies for a nut to slide out... So here it was a 2am, Mean Gene in the hallway yelling, pitching a tent with one nut dangling out, wine buzzing, with that amazing voice... It was an ultimate high light of life.

Mean Jean is a national treasure! One of many personalities that encapsulated my pop culture childhood growing up in the 80s.

Mean gene was the master interviewer, simply the funniest and best. Rest in peace . Really miss him.

My mount rushmore of announcer/play by play voices from my childhood is Gene, Ernie Harwell, Bob Cole, & Vin Scully. I could listen to any of them talk/tell stories for hours.

Wow he can really tell a story and has so much passion!! I loved him and Bobby Heenan so much! I wonder if they get sick of telling stories? Because I love hearing them. I would be so respectable with this guy.

Does anyone else think he was born kooking kike that, the bald head and moustache 😂😂 i don't think I could even imagine him looking different.
As for his voice, he nust always have been destined to voice something big, its finny how very few voices we can hear and know who it is, hes certainly one of the greatest, his timing, the pronunciation, hes just made for this.❤❤❤

It's crazy that he just talks exactly how he did on TV. Like imagine just hanging out with him and he's just saying normal stuff in that voice. Like he says something like "I can't find my reading glasses. I remember having them in the kitchen, but I might have brought them upstairs. I don't want to go up those stairs and they're not there."
