When talking about reliability, wouldn't it have been a good time to mention the issues you guys had with the engine of the Defender in the first few weeks of owning it?
Looking at some stories of australians and their issued with the Defender it would be interesting if the Grenadier would be prone to the same stuff. I remember seeing a story about one guy who camped for 2 days with his Defender, and then couldn't move it or even jumpstart it. Opening the front doors meant that it displayed a sequence on the displays each time and it killed the battery completely.
Or that the first ones had a way to mechanically put the auto gearbox into N in the engine compartment and the currently sold ones don't anymore, and you need a LR service technician with internet access and his Laptop to even be able to pull it onto a recovery vehicle if the battery is that dead.
It's very cool they are actually even able to make it this cheap being some really low number manufacturer and still having to comply with all the regulations.
ОтветитьBut the rims on that defender looks really bad...
ОтветитьI have both, both are amazing!
ОтветитьWho wants to take an $80,000 car offroad anyways?
ОтветитьThat comparison works for "lifestyle" people who buy vehicles for the "cool factor" but don't really use them for their [assumed] purposes.
There's no denying that Land Rover made a phenomenal 4WD platform with LR3/4, and probably made it better in the Defender. However, it all comes to a grinding fault when the tree branch snags off an air suspension hose, or ABS sensor wire. Land Rovers don't really even need to leave pavement to need a flatbed - our LR4 had spent more time and miles on the back of the tow truck than the rest of my jeeps and Land Rovers combined.
The INEOS did what Land Rover should have done - bring back a square box on solid axles, relatively underpowered so the engine torque doesn't kill the rest of the drivetrain. The price point favors the Grenadier as well, for people who really know their market.
Sadly half the features on the Land Rover will not work after 4 years.
Ответитьno not at all it will depreciate faster than a pink sangyong once the Jim fan club have bought and sold build quality is iffy in places I know some people that love them and still have them and plenty that sold quickly once delivered buy a defender and have a bow engine and auto box fitted it will be worth more in the long term
ОтветитьLooking at the defender and grenadier next to another, it’s obvious how much more advanced the defenders body and chassis tech is. The grenadier looks like it’s a 40 years old vehicle. You’d have to be mad to buy one over a defender.
ОтветитьI drve a ineos now 1/2 kare is better than the land-rover i drove 5 yeats
New landrover to lux.
I am a Land Rover bloke from way back and own several different models including series 2a to disco 2 td5 freelander 2 td4 and a few others .I would not even consider a new defender for several reasons (not in any order) it will never be am off road vehicle while it is fitted with 20 inch tyres , if the battery goes flat while touring the outback it cannot be started without a technition with a lap top and landrover software , not very practical on the Canning stock route or othe overland treks where the nearest landrover dealer could be 1000ks and 4 or 5 days away ,electronics way to complicated v6 diesels not very reliable . So I will be taking posesion of my grenadier 3 litre diesel in 3 days with 183 kw(245hp) and 550 nm(406 ft/lB) and 17 inch wheels it will be a great off road tourer
ОтветитьI had to made the decision to buy the grenadier or the defender…. In the end the grenadier was to loud, to thirsty and to expensive ( 94.000€ vs 80.500€ for the defender) and the second row is so much more comfy for my kids … why ineos gave the grenadier an almost rectangular sitting position, in a vehicle that s made for traveling ?!? I really hope the next grenadier will be better in this perspective.
Why are aren’t the 18” steel wheels available in the us? My defender has the recovery points and the 18” steel wheels….. an i have 14.000€ to spend on the vehicle and traveling !
Ineos will be a BMW brand if they need to be bailed out
ОтветитьIs it just me? Or is Tommy killing all his reviews? Keep up the great work. Hope to see you on the trail in March. I'll be back in yalls area.
ОтветитьProblem with defender is the air suspension, when pumped up it’s like on stilletos, unstable, top heavy
ОтветитьSo good this TFL videos
ОтветитьDo dads like lane keep adaptive cruise emergency braking ECT if you need those things you should not be driving a car! You should be relegated to the bus or cabs! Stay off my roads!
ОтветитьI wish bronco owners understood is you drive a brick! Wind noise was a last thought by the engineers. I don't care you spent 80k on it! It's not designed to be quiet. It's designed to be off-road!
ОтветитьThere is only one model of Land Rover: Shit Box
ОтветитьGood video!!
ОтветитьVery simple,.. Land Rover (new) = car (unibody),. Ineos = truck (body on frame),. This is an apples and oranges comparison.
ОтветитьThere is one thingie.. the Ingenium Engine has a few design faults. First of all its the drive chain. 100.000 mls and it need to be replaced.. What is a quite costly topic. I had it on the 2 litre ingenium,.. and had quite to wait a long time until spare parts arrived.
Also if you think about air suspension? - It might be a smooth ride BUT.. -. think of failures. . repairing this in the middle of nowhere is impossible. The Grenadier uses Eibach Suspension system.. Robust and reliable..
My opinion . if you need a car mostly on road downtown with a bit of space - and you can bear the cost..
If you go really off road and do overlanding.. then its Grenadier. BTW None of both is a rock cat like Jeep. If you want to do trails for a weekend you need short wheel base, a lift, things like that. Ineos might release a short wheel base Grenadier that could compete to Jeep Wrangler in this topic. But the current version is mainly an overlanding and adventure vehicle. Good storage and towing capability. Its a proper utility. I use mine in a Diesel version in Germany since now October 22. On the road on motorway, snow, ice, wet meadows, unpaved and ungravelled forest paths with potholes, puddles, mud. .. Grenadier manages all of my requirements.
I am concerned with the cylindrical seat belt holders which come out from the side. In case of a crash what are the chances for ur head crashing sideways into them?
ОтветитьOn the new Defender, is there a self under the steering column that you wack your shins into every single time you hit clutch and breaks? Like the older Defender 90 and 110’s.
Ответить...lawsuits...the tata owner land rover should of been suied for the graphouse garbage they put out with the pretender
ОтветитьThe old land rover defender is dead. Ineos Grenadier is the new real defender. Land rover build only suv now.
ОтветитьIs it reliable? Fuc Land Rover
ОтветитьAfter seeing the Ineos it honestly just made me appreciate what Land Rover did even more. They really brought it to modern times but still kept it capable and kept design hints from the past 👍
ОтветитьThanks Tommy !!!
ОтветитьBuddys Rubicon has been in the shop far too many times. Poorly made oil cooler reservoir, ignition issues, steering issues, various pump failures, broken windshield(s), paper thin glass. The ride, and NVH is practically the worst of any daily driver I have ever seen. Don't know how people enjoy that kind of ride, to any degree.
ОтветитьThe defender is a total piece of shit. If you open and close the doors to many times, it flattens the battery, and you need a laptop to get it restarted.
ОтветитьIf your daily can’t drive 300+ miles and ! Do the rubicon trail start to finish plus get you home; don’t talk to me. ✋
ОтветитьThere's not much British about the Grenadier, apart from the name. It was meant to be a British replacement for the old Defender. But the owner of Ineos decided, in his wisdom, to make the thing in France, so not really a British car at all. French cars are even more flaky than British cars, so buy at your peril! I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole!
ОтветитьIt's oss, not owes. I work for them and we got to check out a couple of the test vehicles last year and we now have one sitting in the car park. We were told it was designed and priced more as a work vehicle in the UK rather than a privately owned off-roader. There's lots of space on the panels for you to fit your own switches for lights, winches, etc that a workplace might fit. Personally I wouldn't touch anything Land Rover. I've had friends & family who owned them and had a new rental Evoque for a couple of weeks and they are just so sketchy and unreliable. I'd maybe risk my money more on the Grenadier than the Disco.
ОтветитьGoing to the mall or on road trips with friends or light off-road the Defender wins hands down & drives like a high-end car with low profile tyres, and the most sophisticated traction control system and air suspension - wow it is great!
Going where there are no real roads, tyres do get shredded, and where you really need robustness & simplicity & options to fix it yourself to get you there or home it's got to be a Grenadier, an Old Land Rover Defender ( I own a Defender 110 CSW, S11A Airportable and Toyota) or 70 series Toyota Land Cruiser! I am a Land Rover man but value simplicity, maintainability & reliability over Gismos which won't work & simply cannot be repaired or made to work when stuck in 3 feet of dirty water.
I like the Grenadier. New Defender drivers are that sort of golf playing dentist, without roots in offroading. Like most of the G wagon owners i know. So no choise for me
ОтветитьNo. They are for different customers.
ОтветитьAwesome Review! I just drove one the other day! It’s really incredible! I love the ball steering.
I got to drive it up onto the sidewalk. It went right up!
Incredible! ❤️✅👍😊
When Mr Patriotic moved production to France he lost me .
ОтветитьGrenadier looks awesome. I am not even considering a Defender. I saw a Grenadier about 30 minutes ago on an ad and now I want one. 😊
ОтветитьYeaaaaaa I’m super happy I got a New Defender. So good.
ОтветитьI remember when TFL test drove the the first of the new defenders and what happened ?? It Broke Down went into Limp mode not once but 4 times on 4 different Defenders Land Rover arent exactly known for quality products always in the doldrums with reliabitilty Time will tell with INEOS
ОтветитьIf you have ever towed a lot you know that turning circle is extremely important. Ineos has dropped a bollock on this one.
ОтветитьFor everyday driving the Defender all day long. What they really did with the redesign is they recreated the original Range Rover. While the new Rangies are all upmarket luxury barges that will almost never see dirt, the new defender picks up where the old range left off. A very comfortable vehicle for all use cases without being too agricultural. I just don't see the Ineos as a compelling proposition rather than a few enthusiasts - especially in the North American market - given its price point and lack of dealer support and probably very limited after market options, due to a small market. If I want to go full on off road prowess, with unlimited customization options - the Wrangler or the Bronco are the way to go. Ineos Grenadier is really a novelty/exotic car with no USP and a extremely small target demo imho. I wish them luck.
ОтветитьCan’t wait to get my magic mushroom
ОтветитьLand Rover should be concerned about ANY competitor that eclipses 50k miles w/o breaking down or having an outrageously costly repair. Which means they should be concerned about EVERY other vehicle on the road😂😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьThe Ineos is the Landrover Defender II. The new Landrover is a Discovery 6 - a luxury SUV with off-road capabilities. However, due to extreme amount of electronics, the air suspension, the unibody, the lack of reliability (like almost all Landrovers), the inadequate rim/wheel sizes etc. you don't want to take it off-roading in remote places or outside Europe, urban North America and Australia.
Ответитьineos gets my vote
ОтветитьDoesn't matter how good the Defender is in theory when it fails to meet such basic requirements such as being able to be started with a flat battery unless towed to a Dealership. Pure fail on behalf of Land Rover.
Ответить
