Brent, Does this require TPM? Most people don't have them...

I don't understand how so many computers don't have TPM 2.0. My old computer is now 7 years old and it has it. One of the reasons that it's my old computer is that the CPU isn't supported. 7th Gen iCore.

Not happy! It appears I will be throwing my perfectly running Windows 10 MS Surface Pro in the garbage come October. MS needs to allow people much more time before they cut things like this off or give us partial money back for the laptop. After all this is a MS laptop and not another company's laptop running Windows 10. Everyday I use my custom-built desktop, but need the laptop for traveling or coffee shops.

11 reminds me of 8. One surviving 10 LTSC device, 11 LTSC was just released (also have Tiny11 on my Ventoy stick). Rest of the machines are on Linux. Main is on Nobara 40 but I may go CachyOS try the new Nvidia 570 driver DLSS4. I like to keep one Windows machine for promotions like the Discord streaming one I had to use the 10 LTSC PC last month to complete it.

I'm so glad I stuck with XP and 7 and ditched the umbilical cord to Microsoft. With an enforced Microsoft account instead of local one no wonder they are peddling this monstrosity down people's throats. It's just more vendor lock in with every successive version. It can't even be called an OS anymore it's far removed from what it used to be it's flat and dull. None of the stuff you want in it and everything they do want for monetisation profit. Won't be long before windows is a subscription service once they have everyone forced to use a m$ account.

Windows 11 is the most offensive version of Windows ever created. I tried older versions of Windows, but the first Windows I regularly used was Windows 3.0. Windows 2000 and Windows 7 are still the best versions of Windows and it's all downhill since then. Windows XP and Windows 10 could be made to be tolerable, but XP was frequently flaky and 10 was full of annoyances that required too much expertise and time to eliminate. Now Windows 11 doubled down on everything annoying, adding more while making it all much harder to disable.

Microsoft, the purpose of the operating system is so I can run the applications I need or want to use. The operating system should otherwise be minimally visible and maximally unobtrusive!

Of course, I really liked OS/2 2.0 and 2.1, so what do I know.

They need to allow machines that don’t have TPM to install Win11 without hacks

I hate this.. Force feeding updates. 24H2 is is very different under the hood. It was originally intended to be WIndows 13. For anyone on Windows Home.... This is about to become a forced update

So windows 10 pc's that is not compatible with windows 11 wont get this once searching for updates?

Because the whole of 2024 and 2023 i have never seen one of the full screen pop ups on my windows 10 machine asking me to upgrade to windows 11

And i actually press search for updates every patch tuseday so i get the important updates as fast as possible. The question mainly is, Will i see that upgrade to windows 11 24h2 once i press "search for updates" on a patch tuseday even if my windows 10 pc is not meeting the requiremments?

No Thank You, Microsoft. I tried Windows 11 and it is awful. What takes one click on 10 takes three or more. It is also much, much, much slower than 10. I am happy to remain on 10 until Windows 12 comes around.

Yeah it is a good idea to wait at least 4 months or more for 24H2 to mature more, especially because Win10 is rock solid and stable, everything works well, it's such a shame having to abandon it in October.

Won't happen automatically unless you're actually signed-IN to a Microsoft account though. A lot of folks nowadays skip the Microsoft signing-in when they buy a new pc because they don't trust Gates.

The 400 machines I have at work still do not meet the system requirements being on average between 13 and 15 years old. They are isolated from the internet and continue to work just fine without receiving non-Windows 10 updates. They will continue to be in use for at least the next 2 years until I retire and then it will no longer be my problem. DO Nothing is my social housing organizations preferred choice for a course of action. The aim is to not incur a costs of 10% of the organizations entire operational budget just to replace he PC's retest the 22 custom apps with possible rewrites of apps that no longer have vendor support , retrain users on the new OS and hire wo full time IT support staff, a IT Manager specialised in IT and develop a servbased domain controller enterprise architecture with a server and an actual IT department as well as a server room. This is in contrast to the current peer to peer office based LAN's , a peer to per mail system where each office has a computer that sends mail to the other offices on the VPN connection and a 1/2FTE support who's other 1/2 FTE is a socialworker in a homeless shelter.
