River Cruise Lines Don't Like Talking About These Issues

I just took a river cruise in America the Mississippi river cruise the American Queen steamboat the big one.... I really enjoyed it I chose it because of it's size it had lots of public spaces on the ship to go to.... The only thing I didn't like about it it was 7 days way too short....I like longer cruises 10 days or longer....I probably will never take a European river cruise but maybe one of those barge canal cruises I saw one that actually had a small swimming pool on it... It held about 10 people with a crew of about 4....

7 months can hardly be described as just a few months

I have done several ocean cruises, but wanted to do a Paris-Normandy-Paris river cruise. After pricing it out, I am doing a stay-cation lol

My wife and I, in 2016 completed the European river cruise from Amsterdam to Buda Pest.with APT Ama Stella, beautiful ship, great food, staff were excellent. All food and drinks were included
Continual entertainment, a wide variety. 66 lochs, even those were interesting. The only negative I experienced, on the 15th day, the cruise was over. We have since been on a cruise around japan, this of course was an Ocean cruise, We sailed with Diamond Princess, our first, the friends we travelled with at the time, 29 cruises. Start to finish, a wonderful experience, yes a lot different to River Cruises. The ship was superb, Staff, the ultimate in courtesy, and professional standards. Food Drinks great. Excursions offered a wide variety, showing Todays Japan, and the sadness of 1944. The second last day of the cruise, we went with our friends and booked July 2024 Mediterranean Cruise, With Princess.
I believe that some critics, who talk about both River and Ocean cruises, appear to dwell on negatives, sure its great to understand, positive/ negative experiences of cruising, however it seems that it is more about what they did or did not like.I hope that more people are willing to do both, We can only share what we found in both types of cruises, loved both.

Your pricing is a bit off for us who live in Australia we have a starting price from $5.995.00AUD per person then it goes up to $14.995.00 pp and above and that is for 90% of the cruise companies but some being even more expensive plus the price varies with the time of year you may wish to cruise and that can change by over a $1000 per more pp in the space of a couple of days

We have done 3 Viking River Cruises, two of them had issues, one with low water levels in the Danube, we were bused to another boat beyond the issue to continue the trip, second time on the Dorno in Portugal itinerary disrupted due to planned lock closure...these things do happen folks....

Watched several of your thoughts of river cruises. You always seem to come across as very negative. I personally would rather have a river cruise than an ocean. It to me is a much more intimate experience.

On an ocean cruise I encountered the steep ramp problem during my alaska cruise when the tide went out and I had to take a tour or enter the ship it was suddenly a lot steeper. I almost couldn't push the wheelchair up from the tour boat after watching whales. Get a motorized wheel chair people that was a mistake on our part.

The fly in the ointment with river cruising in Europe is the fug of air pollution and the uncomfortable knowledge that you with your throbbing diesel engines are adding to it. I know that buses and trains burn fossil fuels too but somehow being out in the open air, which you are a lot, makes you more conscious of it . I'll cruise again when it's more responsible environmentally.

Sounds like my idea of hell.

I've been on 65 standard cruises, plus 3 European bus trips, & always wanted to try
a European river cruise! But, the prices of them, in the past decade, has doubled,
making them not affordable! Except wealthy seniors, who can afford them, " River
Cruising" will never become popular with families, unless they drastically reduce prices!

Our friends went on a river cruise last summer and were very disappointed when the entire cruise had to be reworked due to water lever. Instead of cruising they were put on a bus and stayed in hotel rooms in each stop. They still had a fun time but they never even stepped foot on the boat.

I really enjoy your videos on cruising - you haven’t scared me off cruises of any kind but just made my choice not to ever go on a cruise much easier! Your videos are very important for people to view so they have awareness of the great, good and maybe not so good items for any type,of cruising! Thanks!!!

Great video and very accurate. What this type of cruising real appeal is to a first time traveller to Europe and wants a guided experience. We personally enjoyed our river cruise very much and it showed us want places that we really wanted to revisit again.

I've watched three of your river cruise videos. In everyone you are completely negative against river cruises. By your own words, the river cruises are sold out early. I guess a lot of travels enjoy river cruises. Maybe you should stay with ocean cruises. You come across stuffy. Very stuffy.

Disagree -- comparing Ports and Excursions, there are BIG DIFFERENCES and these include actual sites of mooring. AND, some "stops" with one lines are more "shopping oriented" rather than the ability to see and visit historical sites or sites where you can participate in activities and interests. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE among River Cruise Lines.
