Just watching 'Boy Swallows Universe' on Netflix and this song came on. What a great blast from the past! So good to hear it again.

Magical. Never been much of a Stranglers fan but always loved this. I remember it being on top of the pops and willing it to get to number one. Alas, because according to Hugh Cornwell, he said the bass player “bigmouth Burnel” let slip too early the true meaning of the song, all the networks sadly dropped it from their playlists and it disappeared out of the charts.

Divine. Simply divine. One observation: Hugh is horribly misplaced in the video: he obscures Dave Greenfield. He should, of course, have been placed gazing dreamily upward, standing against the left-hand column opposite Jet Black. How the director and DOP missed this is beyond me. Must've nodded off. 😉

It does seem Tragic as this is the most famous Stranglers song rhat you have a situation in the bands 50th year and the bassist and bunch of new guys do an ok version of this to twice rhe Audience of Hugh Cornwell who actually wrote it with Dave and a little jet. Jj did not have direct hand but he is the one doing it...better off gping to see Hugh any day much as i love JJ
