I'm glad my Mitsubishi has a timing chain and 320,000 miles
ОтветитьHow much would labor just be for that Honda? No parts included. I'm just curious. I just did the timing belt today all day for my cousins Honda Pilot. It did take all day, but i got it done. A lot of work! i just did it to help him, but i have NO idea how much labor it would've been. $$??
ОтветитьI like your honesty.
Thats true when u do this job your goal is to prolong the vechicle
Which means since u open this belt ,since ur there.
U have to change what ever need to be change.
I actually love timing belts, and Honda has never been about being cheap, especially on their premium V6 engines. They use excellent quality belts, and I've seen some with over 300,000 miles on the original belt, albeit in not great condition. This is a deliberate design to force people to do critical maintenance on a high compression engine. Most people change the oil once in a while, and that's it. They ignore the coolant completely, and the timing system too.
Timing chains do stretch slightly, but most importantly guides wear down as they are composite. Then you have slightly worse running engines (worse mpg is usually the biggest indicator) as they age. But with belts, you FORCE the user to change the most critical components on an engine, ensuring its reliability. Not to mention, they are much quieter and smoother too. I know because my J32A3 powered Acura TL now has over 400k miles, but I do maintain it (myself) religiously. I learned to wrench on this car, and it's actually pretty forgiving most of the time.
Believe it or not, my other car (E60 545i 6 speed) is also relatively easy to work on so long as you have ISTA/INPA and all the other software. It's not quite as reliable, but being a manual, it's not bad at all for over 200k miles.
Lmao I can feel this mans pain
ОтветитьGreat video! I have a 2017 Accord 3.5L V6 36K miles. How many miles should I wait until I get new timing belt? Or should I just change it cause it's been 7 years? Have you ever seen a low mileage high year cars timing belt look bad or break?
ОтветитьJust did this job on a 06 pilot, not too bad I’m an industrial mechanic by trade. Work on all my own cars, nothing like peace of mind diy.
Ответить3300 to replace my timing belt on my f150
ОтветитьRubber belts for valve timing is ridiculous. Chain or gear drive will last the life of the engine. I will never own a vehicle with belt driven valve timing or oil pump. Garbage engineering.
ОтветитьSome dealers do charge too much for timing belt jobs. When I had my 1.8T Jetta, the dealer quoted $1800 for a timing service. I found a local no name shop that did it for $700 using OEM VW parts
ОтветитьI did my last timing belt while engine was on the stand. Was super easy. LOL
Was swapping it out. 120K miles ago I lost the timing belt on a friday night, so ordered an engine with 25k on it.
Pulled the cover, and saw the interference engine didn't. So popped on a new timing belt, and drove it with spare engine in garage.
Just did the clutch and what the hey, put in my low mileage engine while everything was out of the car.
Can't wait to tear down and rebuild the original one now. Kids engine is at 270K, so I want it ready to drop in.
I had my timing belt replaced at 100k km here in Canada. Manual says to do it at 100k km if you leave in cold climates.
ОтветитьMy brothers 2005 Hyundai Sonata with the V6, he got it for $1,200 a while ago in nice condition. Had the belt replaced, costed $800, and it lasted 30,000 miles, snapped, and the engine broke with the belt.. Timing belts scare me, and I have a Sonata was well, 2005, with the i4 with the belt. If the belt breaks, the engine breaks, if the engine breaks, it's not worth replacing as the car is worth so little.
ОтветитьI know whats involved 20 odd yrs in the motor trade i'm 66 I know what its going to cost it still hurts but you gave a great break down for the one's that think their car runs by magic.
ОтветитьI was 15 and like stated in the video i assumed the timing belt was like the accessory belt, i was over watching my uncle who was a home mechanic, the disbelief in the work that went into was insane never questioned labor prices since and that was over 20 years ago lol
ОтветитьSir wizard hi hello they have a acheback car Hyundai eon 38 mile age almost 8 year me I ask you time to replace timing belt
ОтветитьFor decades we had these Timing belts....that cost $ 20 - $ 45, yet can cause catastrophic engine failure. Dumb dumb design... Page forward. No more Timing belts. Now we have Timing chains that don't need replacing. But, don't relax yet...we now have CVT transmissions, soy covered electrical wiring, Thermal Control Valve, Cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing, windshields that crack for no reason, engines that can catch on fire with no warning because auto makers think it's OK to have gas drip on hot engine, confusing "Infotainmant" system, more plastic where metal should be...etc, etc. Cars were never this expensive yet cheap and disposable at the same time...
ОтветитьAll this man does is trying to justify high cost of his repair service. He just throws parts at cars and thinks that is fine. I've replaced many timing belts and in most cases all I needed was the timing belt, other belt(s) and maybe a tensioner. Labor is not much once you get some experience. I could do some timing belts in 30 minutes or less, and some may take an hour. This is in no way difficult, as some repair jobs may get. It is easy and logical. I want to see this "wizard" do actual work for a change. He just talks and talks to no end, while others do the work. Look at his arms, hands and fingers. They look like that on a office worker...
ОтветитьI replaced timing belt on my friends Mazda 626 in a parking lot with a few basic tools. It's not rocket science like this "Wizard" suggests.
ОтветитьBoy the days when you could change the timing belt on a 77 Accord in half an hour..... by yourself. Today they REALLY just want you to replace the entire car every 5-8 years.
ОтветитьI find this guy wafels far too mutch…your either compitent or your not .,,
ОтветитьWish you did a DIY video! this is literally my exact car but in white lol.
ОтветитьHonda timing belt is costly? Ask for german garbage timing chain cost😂
ОтветитьAnd this isn’t even a wet belt….id like to see this video with a wet belt engine
ОтветитьI had a 4 cylinder engine with a timing belt. It wasn’t as expensive and time consuming as this job is. On my car, all the components had to be replaced as shown in the video. After that experience, I’ll try to find a car or truck with a normal timing chain.
ОтветитьDo any engines still use timing gears at all?
ОтветитьI appreciate the video, I think it is unfortunately a common experience where we go to a mechanic, get sold some warranty that we really didn’t need and didn’t actually fix the issue long term. We hate getting ripped off or the feeling that in the hard times paying anymore than is an honest price. Thank you for your transparency.
ОтветитьEverything costs an arm and a leg and it comes to car maintenance smh
ОтветитьFiat's fire engine can get away with a premature cut in the timming belt?
Or so i heard..
Moral of the story: chiming chains and non interference engines…
ОтветитьYeah but besides tearing everything apart again, how do you know it was even done, just had my pilot timing belt changed and looked everything over and looks like the same old tensioner still on and put old serpentine belt back on,why wouldn't they just put new serpentine belt on since everything was apart, I'm not sure they even replaced my timing belt actually!
Ответить= trade it in
ОтветитьOnly timing belt engine I would ever get is a non-interference one. Why the hell trust the timing of an engine on a belt? Screw that, give me a chain and a properly designed engine where the chain has sufficient lubrication with an external water pump.
ОтветитьSo nowhere in the video did anyone explain why timing belts are so expensive to replace. Now I know why myself. They are time consuming in that much of the engine components, fender wheel wells and other parts need to be removed before you even get close to the timing belt and that takes time and time is money with todays shop rates.
Yes one must be careful doing belts as if you make a mistake you can hose your own vehicle. I see people wring their hands about cam timing and crank position before even removing the belt. I just cut mine off, and in the case of my Honda Odyssey align the front cam, align the rear cam to the housing marks and set the timing mark on the crank so it is pointing to top dead center and then install the belt. If you feel something might have moved while installing the belt and tensioner then just turn the crank over two or more comple revolutions BY HAND and stop at the proper mark on the front cam and then check to see if the rear cam is on mark and the crank is on mark. If they are then it is OK to button it up and go. If the marks are not aligned on all three points the engine might even stop turning again BY HAND and you will need to remove the belts and align all three marks again and reinstall the belt. Most people don't even know they don't even have to align any mark if they can be sure neither the crank or either cam had move when the belt was removed. I do understand it is difficult for many to mark positions of both the cams and crank so it is best if people just turn the cams by hand to the proper marks and the crank to top dead center before reinstall the timing belt.
How much for a timing belt replacement for a 2016 Honda oddessy ?
Ответитьit only takes 3h max to do timing belt on honda/acura vehicles. sure bunch of parts have to come off but its not difficult at all.
ОтветитьHe makes removing a few bolts to remove the pulleys and water pump sound like some huge undertaking.
ОтветитьI didnt even know stuff about cars and changing the belt was easy asf just make sure the jack has a 2x4 so it wont crack the oil pan.. the scary part was removing the motor mount 😂
ОтветитьWow, 120k miles? Mine’s at 72k and needs to be replaced :(
Ответитьpaid my mechanic 320$ for labor, 120$ for the belt and pump
ОтветитьFailed to mention that it also requires special tools to set up the pulley as some engines don't have timing marks.
ОтветитьNot high compression!! The Acura TLs were 10.5 to 11.0!!
ОтветитьExcellent video
ОтветитьI did mine last month with the water pump and pulleys on my 2011 ex-l took 6 hours and it was easy, hence I’m a Mopar tech, so I havev knowledge about vehicles. Paid $190 for ASIN parts.
Ответитьdoes anyone know if a 92 chevy lumina 3.1 motor is or is not an interference motor,im getting alot of yes and alot of no answers, please only comment wit an 100% answer
ОтветитьDecent video but let break down time and cost. Let's say you get a gold plated timing belt kit with all belts, pulleys, tensioner, crank/cam seals, water pump, serpentine belt, and a snack for the mechanic. 400 USD. That's 900 USD left.
Let's say the mechanic is all thumbs and it takes 4 or 5 hours, that's 180-225 dollars an hour! But, now let's say this mechanic is making 25 dollars an hour that's 100-125 dollars for this job. That 775-800 dollars profit. For one job.
FYI a physician makes about 100 dollars an hour, there is a wide variance depending on specialty and location. A doctorate in pharmacy is about 80-110. A nurse is about 80 dollars per hour.
This is not to say anyone in the non medical industry is not important, I love my garbage man as much as my PCP. I really love my HVAC guy in the summer if there's a problem! But no other career can boast about such a great profit- except for the would oldest profession (not evangelization either).
The bottom line you charge so much simply because you can. People will either pay you or they will need a new car. It's not mysticism or magic.
I’m always socially distant c-vid was nun for me. Y’all had to live my life and I love that😂
ОтветитьFunny, my MDX is due for a timing change. Acura is charging me over 2200. Crazy🤦🏾♂️
