You know, now that you mention it, I feel like the difference in how Freddy and Jason treat kids should've factored into Freddy vs Jason somehow. Freddy is a child killer, Jason kills to protect children. That feels like a natural source of conflict.

This has way less character development than part 4. Sure this film is very focused by having plot structure but the characters are pretty shallow. Obviously the main trio of Sheriff, Megan and Tommy are pretty fun, but they don’t have the same depth as part 4 characters. No one else in the movie is memorable at all and are just fodder for Jason. Which is fine for this type of movie, but saying it has more character development than 4 is such an over exaggeration.

If I was writing the ending for this movie, I would have Jason breaking the chain the next day after being sunk and having his neck cracked. After that, the last scene would be the kids going back home and Jason sees Nancy (the little girl that he met and spared last night). The reason why Nancy's not with the other kids is because she took longer to pack her bags. However, right before she gets in the bus, the little girl bumps into Jason and almost screams but the hockey masked murderer just hands her a teddy bear or any kind of cute plush toy, showing that he won't hurt her. Jason lets her go and Nancy feels somewhat confused. She gets to the bus and takes one last look at the camp and sees Jason standing there, unsure of how to react. Just before the credits start rolling, Jason tries to hide in a forest in the camp, watching over Camp Crystal Lake (or Camp Forest Green).

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole looking into this cast after rewatching the movie and your kill count. Obviously, I knew Tony Goldwyn from Scandal, Frasier and the AIDs episode of Designing Women. But I saw the guy who played Larry (Alan Blumenfeld, one of the paintballers) was in a couple episodes of the Golden Girls. Justin Nowell, I recognized him as Charlie from Sleepaway Camp after you pointed it out. He and his brother actually acted together in part 6; I didn't realize his brother was in the movie, too.

I really liked the Sherriff too, terrible death as he last chanch tried to save his daughter.
