How to make a Jewel Shape if you only have Hexagons

Couldn’t you just create the jewel shape with the card stock first by adding the triangle to the hexagon and then using clear tape to hold it together, then covering the complete shape with the fabric? Then you wouldn’t have a seam where the two pieces are joined. Or better yet, just trace the shape onto a new piece of card stock, then cut out and cover? I think that’s what I would so to avoid the seam.
