The mic subplot was riveting 😂
ОтветитьI now own a dvd of project a ko
It has become my favorite movie. Lesbos fighting over airheaded cute girl? Hell yeah
If you like the title for Butt Attack Punisher Girl Gautaman OVA... well you need to check out BUTTOBI CPU. I kid you not.
Also for just sheer wrong: Yoiko / Ebichu the Housekeeping Hamster / Ippatsu Kiki Musume
Lord I love 90's obscure insane OVA's no one else knows about in general. It's a point of pride.
Loololololol "kite" is killing me
ОтветитьHazel, what's your opinion of the Slayers franchise? Do you like it? Have you seen it? Do tell when you have time
Ответитьthere's a website named wcofun which has a giant catalogue of ova's
ОтветитьWhat anime is the girl with grey hair from?
ОтветитьThis is such a sick video, I love the part about Vampire Hunter D and the feeling of knowing where alot of the stuff you love comes from, very relatable to me the more anime I watch.
ОтветитьRead Or Die the OVA was from later but i didnt understand what an ova really was until watching this video and i was always so confused when no one i knew ever knew about it. i dont rememeber what i was going to say <3
ОтветитьI watched this video with a fever, and let me tell you, my delirious state made this video a freaking trip. Definitely will check out anime from this list I havent watched yet.
ОтветитьLMAO the Serpent Column shoutout though
Ответитьi thought I saw midori on the thumbnail. Look it up, Suehiro Maruo. A guy animated the fuck out of a scene of puppies being brutally killed. You have to question what's going on between the ears of a guy that draws a puppy dying hundreds of times.
ОтветитьGUY: Awakening of the Devil is a nice Urotsukidoji clone
ОтветитьAs the one who fan-translated The Curse of Kazuo Umezu back in 2009, I can assure any curious viewers that you don't have to resort to random Russian-subbed uploads to watch it. Although I am an "old Millennial," I didn't get into anime as a teenager and mostly missed out on the VHS/"splatter and tits" OVA era. About the only anime I saw before my early 20s were some random episodes on TV and the occasional mostly-kid-friendly movie. So while I do watch and enjoy content from many eras, my Favorite Decade is more like late-90s to late-00s. Yes, even including a lot of the early-2000s low-res digipaint titles that're fashionable to label as "dogshit" or whatever.
ОтветитьShin Megami Tensei did monster colleting before Pokémon was made. The first Shin Megami Tensei monster collector was in 1987. It's a common misconception that Pokémon was first monster collector because the Pokémon series wants you to think that. However, it is true that it is the most popular. Megami Tensei was the first monster collector in 1987, Dragon quest 5 was the first one that feels like Pokémon, which was 1992. If Pokémon was first, they would sue all the others and win but that does not happen. Otherwise love your video. Monster collector's are an obsession of mine.
ОтветитьOh Im going to come out of this video planning to watch at least half of these, arent I...
Ответитьyou can try and justify their actions and make reason of what there doing all you want. but we and the American creator and our attorneies will tie up and freeze any movie deals and release featuring the chjaracter and stories that derived from this creator and until they contact us directly and discuss the matter there will be no compromise in our decission
ОтветитьHold on. I NEED to hear more about Oliver y Benji
ОтветитьNot many ppl know Quentin Tarantino actually played Silent Bob and Kevin Smith actually used to be relevant and non cringe
ОтветитьUROTSUKIDOJI WAS THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MIND, WTF HAZEL I WASN'T READY FOR THAT JUMP SCARE
ОтветитьThe whole vid is solid, but big props for mentioning Danzig's Verotik. Even in comic book circles that publisher rarely gets talked about. And fun fact, Madhouse was going to produce an ova based on the Verotik title Satanika in the late 90s. It didn't come to fruition, but a proof of concept trailer and art book do exist.
ОтветитьI'm from England and grew up with 90s anime. I loved your video, thanks for making it! Our film censors (the BBFC) hated anime and would cut them to ribbons or even, as you say, ban them. To be honest, when the internet came along and I bought the uncut (not including blurring) Urotsukidoji series from America, we felt the BBFC made the right call for once. It was one of the only times my friends and I preferred the cut version because of all the endless rape that was in the uncut MPAA "unrated" version. We were raised to be gentlemen to women so seeing how needlessly sexually violent it was annoyed us, to say the least. The Urotsukidoji series was excellent to begin with but, as the series progressed, there were more and more diversions into gratuitous rape that served no narrative purpose whatsoever. My friends and I must have been the few people to have been bothering to follow the plot rather than the T&A! I hadn't considered a queer theory angle to Project A-Ko before so thank you as well for that! I teach film and media so it would be a wonderful inclusion for LGBTQ+ week! Thanks again!
Ответитьthis made me realize that devil man crybaby on netflix is just a newer adaptation of devil man and I love that sudden epiphany
ОтветитьMe and my mates have a giant spreadsheet of short anime. Four hundred something OVAs, student films, music videos, and whatever else. Roll some dice, watch whatever the hell shows up.
Black Lion is peak Go Nagai. It's ninja terminator except the ninjutsu is just throwing weed on a campfire and wafting it in the direction of the enemy.
Project A-Ko seemed to actively resist any attempt at mockery. It was like one of those pre-recorded messages that predicts your words. Every time we made some sarcastic commentary it somehow managed to directly address it immediately.
Dark Myth was the worst thing we have ever watched. We thought we were halfway through its 80 minute runtime. We looked at the time stamp and it had only been six minutes.
Where can I find these?
Ответитьayo ayo ayo ayo, what connection do you have to positive yellow??? now im intrigued
ОтветитьI found an anime website years ago where you could download tons of shows. Stuff I havnt seen in years and stuff I've never heard of before. Sadly the websites gone now because the person who own the site uploaded all the animes to megaupload. Wich was taken off the internet not long after.
ОтветитьDragons heaven reminds me a lot of the old heavy metal art from the magazine and the movie I think the artist is Corbin but idk love the memories thx
ОтветитьI love art and I love listening to people talk about the appreciation of art.
ОтветитьI definitely trip out on the nihilism and even more so the ambivalence. I'm no Asian historian, but I suspect that some of the beautiful, super cool villains in anime are representative of other Asian countries; wherein the ideologies are demonized but there is still agency possessed to extend a deep respect and high regard to similar cultures. i.e.: "You piss me off, but at least you're not an atrocious white person." And while you are correct that we should not favor just one generation of anime I do see a growing trend of lazy cgi insect-like blobs making up the entire enemy force; serving only as a kind of "Dumb Watson" to make the protagonists more attractive. I mean, insect blobs are fine if they have a dynamic, semi-humanoid commander that looks like Cell or Toguro--better yet if he has to obtain a magic elixir to save his ailing daughter whilst fighting the heroes, (to really mess up our sense of justice).
ОтветитьWho’s this Golok and can I be his friend lol
Some of these are so hard to find 😂
No 3x3 Eyes? You monster!
Ответитьi adore the moments in this video where she goes "yeah i was blacked out for this one"
i am embodying that today
Cool.
Meow
your persona 4 is a rip off of smt
ОтветитьHazels interests and topics of discussion are endlessly interesting to me
ОтветитьI'm glad to see someone finally mention Dragon Half without me specifically looking for it. The first anime I ever owned was this on DVD, an impulse buy from Hastings when I was probably 10 years old.
Yeah I just saw the words "half dragon girl" and that was all I needed to know. Imagine my surprise.
Me watching a modern anime: Wow, the art style on this looks so bland and generic, I'm really losing interest.
Me watching a classic anime: Wow, the art style on this anime is great, but the pacing and execution are awful.
Me watching a 2000's anime: Wow, both of these things are bad!
For me my golden age is the late 80s through the 90s I grew up in the 2000s and I believe what I watched although formative and good to me at the time is pretty terrible I resonate much more with the aesthetic and themes of the late 80s through the 90s like EVANGELION bubblegum-crisis and Lodoss War.
ОтветитьI don't remember if I commented this already but for those curious, the song from Psycho Diver is called Warfare Beware
ОтветитьNo Dangaioh...................
