I first heard this played at a concert I randomly saw on TV in the 80s, when I was a little kid. Never heard it anywhere else since. I've searched for it for years.
I didn't know what it was called. Didn't know who it was by. Didn't know the words, but the tune has stayed with me since. It has taken 30-odd years to finally find it. Glad I did!

I was working down Brighton ,1988 , just watched Meatloaf in Concert whilst down there , came home and saw that Hot house flowers were playing at Folkestone ….went with the Future wife and we’re both Blown away ,what a Gig Brilliant and they still are !!!!!!

This is quite surreal because I don't usually get musical facts wrong, but there's literally nothing on the internet about what this song's really about. It sounds like a run of the mill love song but it's actually about a friend of theirs, dying of cancer. Which instantly makes it one of the saddest songs, I was just beginning to doubt my memory until I went back to the album which has a song called 'if you go', which leaves it in no doubt, and really is the saddest song

Hated it in 1988 when I first heard it. It was an annoying song then. But it was on every list and TOTP, and weekend chart show. You knew then this band and song were kind of a 1 hit wonder.
