You're absolutely right that back 60 years ago 50 years ago even 40 years ago before we had auto-tune and other technology, artists were authentic and real. I miss those days. I'm 69 years old and this kind of stuff just touches my heart.

You're right. It was much better back then. You have to have real talent and not just a lot of loud noise like today.

Today’s performers are a dime a dozen. They have no talent. There are a small handful who have true vocal abilities and stage presence all of whom are rock and pop.

A beautiful song talkingof a love asking her to wait for him. This was at the time of the. Vietnam war. He is a soldier on the other side of the ocean Thus the river as it flows out to sea . Even ththough he is away the waters of the world will carry there love together even though it has separated them.

A anti Vietnam war song.

Artists back then, honed their craft for many years before they became an "overnight" sensation. No technology to make up for their lack of talent.

The cream rose to the top. It was harder to prove true talent. Realize too, we had no videos no MTV of musicians. If they made an appearance on TV, we'd be glued to it. So off the radio or record wed fall in love. And yes these voices would find places in our "hearts" that made us scream.😊

Agree. Nowadays everyone thinks they are singers when they can't sing worth 2 cents 😂 sound like toads on live performances. Back then, they only promoted talent and nothing else which has discontinued in modern times.

Frank Sinatra must hit your playlist hopefully at some point. Or the Classic 1950's 60's style. Pure talent on display then.

Look for Linda Ronstadt from the ‘70s as another example of an artist that could stand on stage with minimum accompaniment and mesmerize an audience with just overwhelming talent. Any song from 1977 Atlanta concert will work….Blue Bayou, Desperado, Youre No Good and many others

I think there was both good and bad back in those days. Mainly its only the good ones that survived, so anything you hear from back then was the better songs. In 50 years, most of the bad songs from now won't make it, and they will only hear the better ones.

I have always enjoyed this most beautiful song, sung in such a romantic theme, but to watch the appreciation of this song by this most enchanting young lady, I wish I could be that person creating such a feeling in her, as that which she feels as she hears this wonderous song. Bobby Hatfield really nailed it, with that beautiful love song.

The songs back then told a story. The artist singing these songs took ownership of these songs and made them their own. They had real talent.

On of the main differences, in those days, is that the men and women singers were singing to and about their loves. Even when singing about lost loves, there was a heart ache about the loss and a wish for their return. Now-a-days the songs are crying in your beer songs, feeling sorry for yourself songs and how they were done wrong songs. Clever songs, but no heart.

Today, we have quantity over quality. Let's face it, mediocre singers can use autotune to sound much better than they really are. That makes it difficult for true talent to excel, since mediocre talent can so easily be elevated. Let's face it, someone like Karen Carpenter would never get a contract today. She wasn't flashy or sexy enough. All she had was extraordinary talent and an exceptional voice. In today's world, she would be ignored.

This song was a late, 60's or early 70's song by Tommy James and the Shondells, Crimson and Clover. This was our song after were were married and this was 53 yrs. ago this past July. The opening of the song is very unique, and I purchased it for her for Christmas and while she was in the other room I played it on our CD player. She heard the first note and came out of the other room crying!! It still affects us that way.

I see now why Gen Z's are feeling like they do. The music they have today is shallow and there's no emotional connection to the songs. How can the performers of today even compare to the people that I grew up listening to. Perhaps the Gen Z's are right, they have been cheated out of quality of life.
