Great video on how the numbers are different I would have liked to have seen why they are with the likes of rangers going bankrupt in 2012 but having this financial overtake to the rest of the teams

If you got something like 20/21 Celtic and another Sevco situation at the same time, and one other club had a visionary manager emerge from nowhere, it could happen. For example I led Dundee United to the title in FM10, but was sadly never considered for the job in real life

I think this was suggested before. Having Rangers and Celtic compete in the EPL. Wales have their representatives like Swansea and Cardiff. The SPL other than Rangers and Celtic are on the level of England's 2nd tier the championship. Imo I think even if Rangers and Celtic compete in the EPL they will be around 7th 8th position.

My suggestion would be another league restructure. having a top division of 20 and a bottom of 22, with 3 relegation/promotions each season, means that more "smaller" clubs are playing bigger clubs more often. Over time this should surely drive the quality of football up. Having 2 less Celtic v Rangers matches per season may seem like a financial blow but the 2 games they do play would mean more. Each team would play 38 games still and there would be no split. This season in particular we may have several teams in the bottom 6 finishing on more points than some of the top 6 as it is so close. Some teams have played 1 less home game than others at the moment, so is that fair?

Do the non-Old Firm teams in Scotland have to play in the official Scottish Professional Football League system for legal reasons? Can they eventually withdraw themselves or give up their licenses and play in their own competition or is that not possible at all? If they did try to do that, would they be allowed to play football? I assume they would have less revenue, but with a more even competition, would they be able to build an audience?

How is this any different from say Southampton winning the premier league ? The finances of say them versus man city is night and day. Part of the reason the premier league chart you used to compare to the SPL is unfair solely based on the tv revenue every premier league club benefits from for solely being in the league. Example, the champions of the SPL wins 2 million pounds compared to finishing last in the premier league that earns you a cool 91 million pounds. Vast difference in finances to compare wages and transfer fees to. Every league is like this, financial disparity and only a handful of teams in each league that can realistically win it.

As much as I enjoy your videos, this one was idiotic. The landscape of leagues has changed dramatically over the decades. Of course the best supported teams in leagues have the most income so have the most money to spend and will likely be those winning the league most years.

Compare to comparable countries such as Belguim, Austria or Ukraine.

They do need a couple of genuine challengers in this league.

This season the team in 4th has a negative goal difference shows the complete disparity of the league.

I accept the gulf in resources between Celtic and Rangers to rest of the SPFL is huge but comparing it with the EPL where clubs with small fan bases receive £100m TV money each season is not useful. Of course the disparity is much less in that league.

Celtic is run very sustainably, the Celtic board are notoriously frugal over recent decades because we’re generally run on a break even basis. So much of this debate is framed as if Celtic are bankrolled by some oligarch or oil-state. We have a billionaire majority shareholder but he invests zero of his own money.

We have the biggest fan base, the most season ticket holders and the largest worldwide addressable market of any club in Scotland - of course that generates the most money. While I accept this makes competing nigh-on impossible for provincial clubs, I just don’t see how it changes. An even split of TV revenue, maybe, but that’s almost inconsequential given the value of current deal.

Celtic and Rangers are based in the largest area of the country population wise. People might say ‘support your local team’, that’s not going to bridge the gap for 80% of the clubs in Scotland which are based in small towns.

A salary cap would only further hold back Scottish football in a European context and it would need to be set a £2,000/week to ensure Motherwell could compete evenly with Celtic on wages, never gonna happen and nor should it.

In most leagues across Europe, the biggest clubs with the largest fan bases win the most titles. The world is also round. Yes, in bigger countries with larger populations there is a wider variety of clubs that ‘can’ challenge. But most clubs in most leagues never win top division titles. Are we looking for some utopia where every gets a ‘turn’ at winning the title because any advantage based on historic achievement and heritage is eliminated?

You overlooked some other big differences between the EPL and SPL.

Team's lower in the EPL can and do demand big fees for their star players and they get them, in similar figures to the bigger team in the EPL but in Scotland they don't. Only this week w/c 6th June 2022, Aberdeen have a star player, a young player also, being linked to Liverpool and allegedly a bid of only £3M has been offered. If He was at a club in the EPL his fee would most likely be starting at £10+ M. This isn't because of the Old Firm, this is because the Scottish game is Undersold in every area.

Aberdeen in this example should be demanding at least double that from a club in the richest league in the world.

The leadership in every department in Scottish football is crap and will never improve then game in the way it needs.

I can't understand how Celtic and Rangers fans get excited about their teams in the SPL. It's not a proper competition and the lack of competitive quality is most evident most years whenever they turn up for the two top european competitions.

I'm a celtic fan but I wish the league was more competitive. If hibs hearts and aberdeen joined the old firm to make a top 5, even if the old firm were still winning mostly, as long as the other 3 were winning like once a decade, the league would be so much more entertaining. I guess if the odds were levelled then the old firm would not have such a big brand globally, as they probably wouldn't shine in europe as much? But i don't understand why hibs/hearts can't generate more money, they have big fan bases, and in a wealthy city. Maybe celtic and rangers just need to have a salary cap, but then like i said u worsen those teams which would then probably worsen scottish football as a whole. I think we just need more tv deals for the shitty teams so they can boost their revenue. Also, cunts who live in perth, support st johnstone not the old firm!

Would the other clubs have bigger attendances if they lowered gate prices significantly. Would this make them tougher to beat at home. Would it increase television revenue outside the old firm atmosphere attraction. The EPL has full attendance at most games. This is what attracts viewers and tv money. Does anyone in clubs in Scotland think long term.

This video is hilarious after hearing Giovani complain about lack of money to compete in the champions league. Now you know how the other 10 teams feel playing against your horde of unwashed orcs.

If the SFA want to make any sort of dent in this dominance, it needs to start with altering the distribution of prize money, teams at the top getting slightly less so the teams below can afford slightly better players and improve their training facilities for youth development. An extra £1,000,000 means more to St Mirren, Livingston, County etc than it does either of the scissor sisters... not that this is going to change given the SFA is secretly based in some orange lodge in Govan (probably)

Look at down South in the English Premier League did anyone think that Leicester City could win the title but they did.

Plus, it's always a healthy thing never to be too sure of yourself.

Scottish football somehow needs to start attracting serious private money via ownership, it's the only way as TV companies are going to start offering more money for a product they already don't seriously value when they can get it for cheap.

Celtic Park holds 60,000. Ibrox holds almost 51,000. Next highest is Abderdeen at almost 21,000. That alone is 30,000 gate receipt advantage over the other teams. Plus the TV and European revenue, you have an enormous gulf in finances.

If a non old firm team was to treble their wages then they could theoretically beat the other teams more consistently and the keep pace with Old Firm meaning just a handful of games could decide the title. It's theoretically possible then without having to match Old Firm spend completely.

Put Rangers and Celtic in their own league by themselves and let them play each other every week.
Half their gate money goes to the other clubs to divvy up.
Better still, piss them off.
Rangers can play in England and Celtic can play in Ireland since that's where each of their allegiances lie.

Not quite sure why you feel Aberdeen are the team most likely to finish third ? The Dons, just like Hearts and Hibs had relative great success for a short period of a few seasons in the very distant past, but as you point out, non of these 3 will ever repeat these previous highs in our absolutely dull league (in terms of it being a competition for 1st and 2nd if you don't support the old firm)
