They need to pass a law that allows you to get paid for YOUR DATA. Contracts, terms of service and privacy agreements need to be mandated to reflect that. It’s amazing how the 4th amendment is circumvented by a simple terms of service agreement and puts all your information out there for everyone to see and use to harm you.

I've been reading around this. I've seen guidance stating if you've had tyres fitted to a car for more than 5 years get them changed. 5 years for gods sake!!! In a country that doesn't have mandatory road worthiness inspections. I'd think you'd want a car going to a regulated, well trained mechanic once in a while.

I have to say we were screwed with a car we had just previously bought. They never told us they would charge us $175 to do a diagnostic test

Guys, you are missing the forest for the trees. You say they need a port where everyone can get the information? It's called an OBD2 port, it is mandatory on all vehicles and has been since 1996. I as an ASE Master technician has access to all of the same stuff the dealers do, because I bought the equipment the dealers have. The entire problem you are talking about has been solved for decades now. If you want your cars data BUY A SCAN TOOL!!!!!!!! They are sold at Autoparts stores across the country.

Actually there is a standard for repair. Every car has standards of service that dealer use and is accepted by Insurance companies. If you go to a dealer, you pay for the ‘standard’ which is what it takes an average mechanic to do that job. If you have a great mechanic, they can do it in less than 1/2 the time. I had a person working for me who worked a dealership for a while and he was always done by noon depending on service sheet he was assigned. His sore time was fixing up cars he’s find and was incredible

Louis Rossmann did a video about this a week ago. It’s sad that the government will almost always side with the corporations and not the owners of these items, TVs, Cars, Laptops, Phones, tractors and many others. You buy them but the company stills owners them remotely.

This seems to be an issue only in that state, never heard of the issue. Every car has access to the their computer by a standardized port. Some of the tools are cheap to analyze car problems.
