Sounds like a relationship Watts had where after departing, he either pleaded to get back together or wanted to reconcile in some way. In its reconciliation (if it is), however, it sounds like the other individual was neglecting to address the real impact/real feelings the relationship created. Watts is saying to be authentic about their feelings and to show respect for this authenticity. They both made mistakes (it sounds), but there was meaning in that relationship. To act like there wasn't is to disrespect the history.

No idea if this is what it's really about, but regardless, it's a beautifully solemn, somewhat haunting song.
