Fun fact: asking someone for a promise not to die in a Greek story is basically the equivalent of signing their death certificate.

If I had a nickel for every time I saw what I was pretty sure was a DBZA reference in one of these, I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that there's overlap between greek myth videos and anime parody videos.

Saying Achilles is gay because he only started fighting when Patroclus died is as stupid as saying Goku is gay for going Super Saiyan only after Krillin was killed

I am a n.1 Achilles hater. Man spends 90% of the story having his personal toddler tantrum whuch he breaks out of only to get vengance for him murdered cusin/squire/freind/lover. At least Hector has a charachter evolution

I had to read an English translation of the Illiad in ninth grade, and the gods' spectating and participation reminded me of people getting really into a football game.

Also, Hera uses not only her feminine wiles, but Aphrodite's girdle (read: belt.) In essence, if you wore the belt, anyone who saw who would find you irresistibly sexy.

Please no one use this summary for academic purposes. It is a well made and entertaining commentary by a person who doesn't seem to like The Iliad and knows little of the accompanying works. This video focuses on some of the most ridiculous aspects with little context and no reguard for the stardard ideas of: hubris, struggle for knowledge/ greatness, and unpredictability of the forces which they considered gods (war, love, power, the sea etc). These common themes drive most all stories of ancient Greece and are vital to understanding any myth. Also the sacking of Troy, the Trojan horse and the death of Achilles did not happen in The Iliad, The Iliad ends with the funeral Hector.

I remeber watching this video when I was in 6th Grade in a hotel room and falling in love with the Iliad and reading it for the first time that same year and really locking in my love for Greek mythology and culture, and now I have started getting my degree in Classics! It is crazy how much this changed my life.

Whats the best version/author to read by of the Iliad and the Odyssey. I haven’t read either, and I’m not too great at reading but is there a good author that makes both of them a little clearer?

Man comparing this to the Trojan War video is just incredible levels of growth from Red's art skills and just visual storytelling. One small detail I love is that there's a custom font used in the scenes for dialogue and stuff that I forgot wasn't always in the videos. Don't get me wrong, Red's handwriting is far from the chicken scratch I deal with day-to-day but man is that font easier to read at a glance. Growth!
