What Causes Stick Drift Controller and How To Really Fix It

I just spend another $100 on a new controller every time drift starts…don’t have the patience or desire to tear a controller apart and try to fix it.

Thanks for the video. Considering the cost of the system as a whole, this shouldn't happen as often as it does. I've owned PS1 up to PS5. These are the worst and least durable of the five systems. Pathetic!!!

Never works I’ve fixed so many controllers I’ve they got drift your screwed. You clean the or change the otenchiomiter never works right it’s a flawed system don’t buy scuf have the Dane issue get a dispenser edge or elite

As time goes by oils tend to get sticky as they dry up so moving parts , definitely , need to be deeply cleaned and reapplied with new dielectric grease , periodically but I don't know what those intervals are ; I'd say every 6-12 months .

Ever since about a year ago when I had serious stick drift issues on one of my PS4 controllers and 2 of my PS5 controllers, I've seen a few video guides online detailing how to do this exact stick drift fix in the video. As a person who has tried this solution for himself, it definitely works. If you're not comfortable trying to disassemble your controller for yourself to fix your stick drift, try to find a friend, family member, or maybe a neighbor to do it for you. It's almost for certain that simply blowing into the analog stick while the controller is fully assembled, rubbing alcohol on analog sticks, or rotating your analog sticks a few times in various directions will not fix your problem. Just like with severe overheating that can happen inside of your console due to dust buildup and expired thermal paste, this problem must be fixed by disassembling your controller to fix the root cause.

New controllers are junk... I've had every PS system since the ps1 and never had this problem till my ps5. I want to be clear that I'm speaking to the quality... technology wise they are great. I love the adaptive triggers and the controller vibration. I hated the way the old controllers vibrated. They do need a better controller speaker though.

i've never got stick drift on any controller other than the N64. i think people are just touching the joystick before they turn on the controller.

I don't know what causes it but the solution to fixing it, is buying an Xbox

I've got 3 controllers that I've had for 4 years.Only the one that I use all the time has a little drift on the right side stick.The other 2 controllers are like new with no problems.

Does this method work for ps4 controllers? My ps5 is fine but i got two old ps4 controllers that do the stick drift stuff

I just use the edge pro controller so when it happens I just change out the toggle

I started to get it while playing ff16 thinking I was going to have to get a new controller started playing fallout new Vegas and it eventually stopped don’t know what happened

Why do these happen to certain joysticks and not all? I've had it happen to my PS5 and Nintendo Switch JoyCons. However, the Switch Pro controller never gave me any issues and I've never had issues with my Xbox controllers. It seems like a major design flaw on these systems.

It updated -- then the drift happened.
They can't make anything nice anymore. Nothing lasts.

I've had my PS5 for less than two months I played world championship 5 and after playing a few days of that game my controller started to drift my PS4 controller never did that they did that so you can buy the controller that you can interchange the thumb sticks is a money scheme just my opinion......

I have controller which L3 always moves to the right. It so annoying and im not sure if im skilful enough to fix it by myself. Where to get those parts?

ps2 controllers calibrate so they don't drift, somehow 20 years later, they can't do that, really shows that companies nowadays want you to spend more and more money on their crappy stuff at the same price that the actually good ones were

then 6 weeks ago a got stickdrift and i fixed it. BY BEATING THE HELL OUT OF IT

i can clearly see the wiper pad is wore out. it boggles my mind how putting a new wiper in there fixes it, it must have last like 30 minutes before it started bugging out again

I was pritty sure that in the end it didnt still work, becouse the black coal rings were partly broken, i would have soldered and changed the other side allso.

Dealt with Dualsense drift to the left on the left stick for months. Rotating the stick around each angle while blowing through the crevices (had nothing but my mouth) knocked out whatever was throwing off the sensor. Good old fashioned, blowing off a NES cartridge style. Try it before anything else.

I just sprayed break cleaner into the stick and it got significantly better, like 99.9 % accuracy 😃

I have a ps3 for God knows how long... Same with ps4. Never had a problem with any controller. Bought a ps5 and a year into it I already have drift on my controller...

Simple explanation cheaply made and cheaply crafted all this to save money for big corporate's greed instead of making quality!

What the fuck is happening

Never had drift on ps4 or ps5 controller and I play A LOT.
But I had problems with dualsense, not original but the one I bought separately, one analog was not smoothe like another.
Cleaning helped.

Use howdy Q-tips for modeling to clean them, 0 hair left behind.
