I remember when I got my liscence in cali. One of the tests is pulling up to a curb within x inches and then backing up for y meters without hitting the curb. A hit is an instant fail. I remember asking "is this distance ok" and the dude was just like "im the one testing." 😅

At the end though we parked and he didnt even let me finish parking. He just said "youre pretty good, congrats you pass" and scurried out lmao

You made a mistake the two lines means you can’t change lanes. The lines with spaces in the middle is when you can change lanes.

The dude at my driver license test was really nice.

He told me what mistakes I made but like you know, in a good way. The first one I made was making a turn to get to where he was so that he could get in and begin testing. "You didn't use your turn signal coming in here. Good thing I wasn't testing you yet."

Like he exuded good energy. If you tried and failed, he wouldn't be upset. So at the end, I was nervous. "What if I made too many mistakes". So he was checking my score (you needed like 15 points to pass), and said this: "Well, you got 18, so unfortunately, I'm gonna to pass you."

I was there with my mom, and after getting out of the car and heading near her, he added "Well? Tell her the bad news!" He was great.

I can’t believe this is how getting a driver’s license works in the USA (or rather that state). In germany it’s much more complicated, you don‘t take driving lessons at school, but outside of school. You have to wait until you‘re 18, you have to take a lot of theoretical and practical lessons at a driving school, you have a theoretical and a practical test and everything together it costs you around 2000€-3000€ usually (+ on top of that your car). And around 40% fail the test and have to do it again. Also cars are getting more and more expensive here, especially if you want one that’s not completely toasted (your car also has to pass the TÜV test and inspection frequently or it isn’t allowed to drive on the roads and these tests also cost money).

Imagine your first driving experience with a Toyota Tundra that has a 5.7 liter V8 in it. The throttle is also go or not go, there is no in-between. That was terrifying.

I had to take the written test a second time, but thankfully passed the actual driving part on the first try.

After I finished High School (10 years next week 06/21) I got a 1999 Ford Taurus which I still have to this day.

As a adult who has a permit and still can't drive, i swear my parents think im weird when i tell them driving is scary

I didn't get my license till I was 18, but the thing was, I took drivers ed and even passed it when I was 15 XD. I went all through the rest of high school with only a permit because I had really bad anxiety while driving, and when I graduated my mom got onto me and made me start practicing again so I wouldn't have such bad anxiety anymore. (I would literally start crying and shaking when I'd mess up on something)

Since I graduated before I got the actual license I had to retake drivers ed again (It was way shorter and I did it online so it wasn't much of a problem. Plus I already knew all the answers lol) then I was able to get a new permit before finally getting my actual License after the summer. The reason I had to wait till the end of summer though was because I left to stay with my grandma for the summer and they messed up my appointment that I scheduled for before I left... 0-0

I don't have bad anxiety anymore thankfully, so I'm able to get where I need to fine. I've still never drove outside my town, but I'm working on it. XD
