The life aquatic is anything but silent.

Sunderland’s underwater soundscapes are the springboard for With Ears Underwater. The docklands and intertidal mudflats; the marina and estuary of the River Wear; the rock-pools of Roker to freshwater ponds found nestled between factories. This short documentary illustrates the interconnectedness of our acoustic landscape and explores the process of creating musical dialogue with aquatic species.

A trio of musicians used anonymised audio files to create a repertoire of sounds as the basis for collective and solo improvisation. The mystery recordings were, in fact, the sounds of marine life, freshwater invertebrates, and aquatic plants. You can hear some brief excerpts in this video.

The full length album 'With Ears Underwater' is released on New Jazz and Improvised Music Recordings (May 2022). PRE-ORDER here: https://music.daviddelahaye.co.uk/album/with-ears-underwater
