I'm a millennial who's about to have a first experience in managing, I hope that I will able to adhere to all my values and ideals I hold so dear.

Teachers do this everyday. I love that business leaders are joining us by building leaders by building trust and empathy! As a teacher, every year our first priority is to build warm, trusting learning communities. Building communities is an art and takes time and intent. Each year you must start over to create a community that fosters creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Please take the time to build those communities in your companies, so you can see our children who are now adults thrive. It's been my pleasure and honor to teach so many amazing people that you now get to work with.

The problem with leader ship is too much leading. The key is hiring the right people and leaving them alone. Anything else after that it's just useless interference.

I really enjoyed the lesson. Although I wonder what if an employee will use our empathy and not work? I mean you're talking about big companies, how about a small business. How do we deal with an employee that doesn't want to cooperate/do their work properly? E.g. goes to toilet 12 times a day to check their phone etc.

You don't mean millennials, you mean the generation after. I'm a middle millenial by age and we never got participation trophies. Facebook was barely invented when I was in college. There was no amazon prime, tinder was invented in 2012, even the youngest millennial would have been 16 by then. The advice is good, but it's gen z.

Peace upon us all around the world,

Empathy is simplifying the workplace, into a comfortable workshops of tolerance, normally work is stressful, therefore performance treatment indicators are important from management to operators into staffing.

Prospective is reflecting from customer, providing a gift from the store to the employee working in the office every month, beside a daily petty cash in a collection stamps that could get them a gifts from a different place.

Performance involvements of enjoyment fulfillment of supplying promotions that increase inner values of providing add on miles, into cashback demand.

Isolating care givers by materials, into services producing energy atmosphere, aside from building personal relationships.

anyone here who is high in corporate ranks? whats your opinion of simon sineks talks. i was one down C-suite in a company that would never entertain sineks ideas, they sound good. but company wants survival and progress. that depends on several factors that the compay is operating in. not all companies need same type of leaders. many needs a-holes., yes. they do the job for the shareholders, and the BOD.

I very much enjoy Simon's approach. However, I have to unfortunately disagree on the point about no winning or losing or not maximizing shareholder value. The market is emotionless, it is cruel, it does not care, Just like mother nature. Eat or be eaten. There is a finite amount of market share. It is human nature to want to compete to acquire as many resources as possible. Markets, companies and corporations are run by humans. It is civilized society's version of an uncivilized jungle. With that said, I believe it is good business practice to take care of people and treat them well, with respect and to be heard and understood with empathy. This will drive better performance and better idea sharing, which leads to better collaboration, which leads to more idea sharing, more innovation, more creativity, thus better economic output from those human beings. An old mentor once told me -- If you take care of the business, it will take care of you. There is also a feral psychological component that Simon seems to want to socially engineer out of us- that is- when certain people are not stoic and they express vulnerability and weakness. As much as we want to help and pretend we don't feel it- we have a limbic hindbrained response of revulsion. This is evolutionary psychology. It is unavoidable. It is part of our firmware. In times of war, crisis, primitive situations without food, running water, law& order, people revert to their natural state. Humans do not want to be around the vulnerable and weak in these situations. It sucks. It's not cool. But we cannot deny the reality of our evolution.

Wrong. I am in sales. Most managers DON"T know how to do the job which is why they are in management. They work hard for 2 to 3 years to go from a sales position to a management position because it is a grind. Then they just spend decades telling people what to do. They are the most useless people. The BEST years I had were the ones that management turned over and I had minimal supervision. Managers are just people that don't have the guts to do the job themselves and love telling people what to do. If they were demoted they would fail.

Are we just casually passing the fact that the "very-happy-at-my-job" Noah needs to work 2 jobs? So, the managers are asking "What can I do?" but at no point are we helping Noah to not need 2 jobs...cool

I really loved my job like Noah before this, but, once the company expanded, they forgot about empathy. What they want, the result meets their expectation, top sale, become unicorns in the business, but staff started to struggle to meet it. Don't care what you do and how hard you make it, if not meet their expectation, then change to other things.

After spending 25 yrs in corp American (from large cap to small to small private firms), I have learned that the ones who get promoted are the ones who knew someone or were friends with someone in upper managment.
Majority of the time they could not even go their current job properly and did not deserve to be promoted.

Can tell you what, with apple’s iPhone, they’ve been copying and pasting since the iPhone 12. They’ve made subtle tweaks here and there, but no real changes or updates like android brands. But apple’s ecosystem with all their interconnected devices is WHY people keep buying. that’s something that android brands have done casually, but don’t build a product around
